My dad came aboard her sister Gremyashchy during the Battle of the Atlantic 1993 fleet gathering, he was an electrician on board F41 Defensora (Defender) they had just tossed line over when the Gremyashchy entered the Mersey "Nobody knew if the ship coming towards us was a destroyer or a cruiser but she was certainly large, as she got closer we could get a better view of her broadside, 'soviet' sailors lined her decks and she was at full dress on our side NATO sailors lined their decks too, not at attention but out of curiosity. As she passed besides us we were awe struck by one fact, how heavily armed she was, there wasnt a single place were you looked that didnt have a gun or launcher of some sort, the NATO vessels around us looked like merchants ships compared to her, even our own vessel did. The NATO ship had a gun or launcher at the bow, sometimes both, rare cases had surface weapons at the stern, she was armed to the teeth. I later got the chance to tour her and was dumbfounded to learn she was a destroyer." He has a couple of pictures on her deck with a few of his budddies and a few russian officers and sailors and an aussie sailor that got separated from his group and was waiting for them at the gangway.

As an American Sailor during the cold war, I find this article very interesting. We often found ourselves "escorted" by Soviet ships many times. We escorted the Novorossiysk battle group ourselves when she sailed from Socotra around to Vladivostok in 1983. Both sides went to great lengths sometimes to annoy each other. But speaking for the American side, only a fool would not respect the Russians, their humor and courage, and their capabilities. ✌👍

@kathibaba76653 жыл бұрын
@Erina Nagasawa Dependance is not shed overnight. Be sure that the next naval aircraft won't be Russian. It was a flawed design. It maybe because it was just the second Russian carrier based aircraft so they lacked expertise but any way the next would probably be F/A-18 or an indigenous one. Many countries started their carrier fleet with foreign ships, even France and Spain so what's the point at mocking India and the first Indian built carrier is already undergoing sea trials. Russians have stopped developing newer diesel electric submarines and India has already stopped buying them. And those submarines are being slowly phased out so there won't be Russian submarines in the Indian Navy much longer. India already has built it's own nuclear submarine so after the Akula lease is over then the end of Russian submarines in India The INSAS worked well but it is now a 30 year old design so they are being replaced. Expertise is not gained overnight. AK-203 isn't an anomaly as most countries use imported firearms and there are only a handful of skilled manufacturers. India has started producing its own fighters and no newer big purchase of Russian aircrafts are underway only aircrafts lost due to attrition will be replaced.

@Erina Nagasawa So what? It dosen't excuse that it is flawed. If an aircraft has trouble in less than a decade of operational service then it's a bad aircraft. I am not sure what do find so funny.
@Peterax7883 жыл бұрын
@Erina Nagasawa I guess you haven't read history pretty well. Didn't the US use the Swedish 40mm Bofors aa gun, didn't the Russians use the British built trucks for med services. You asked what we use in our Navy is Indian? Our Tejas LCA, the Bhishma tank, Dhruv choppers and many more. Before you trigger an argument like this openly, think before you text.

nice looking ship, surely a potent one during cold war , but whay did it acheive? is she a legend? from what i saw in the vid the ship was build in time, ans worked as intented for a ship of the cold war era.... yeah.... and? WG we know you're a russian company, we know you're proud of you're country but at least try .... try to make those videos somewhat pertinent with the title " naval LEGEND"

Can you please make a naval legends video about Enterprise or Warspite? You already made a video about Bismarck or even Sovjetski Soyuz, who was never finished.

I love naval legends, impressive the destroyer I would love to see it one day in the game in an event with modern ships for example.

13 min for Bismarck and 25 min for some Russian bias nobody cares about. Gj.

I get that they have more material for this since the Ship still exists, but it's not a naval legend. And they could have easily given some build and design background for the bismarck instead of explaining what types of aircraft were involved in sinking it. The Bismarck Video really was more about how the Bismarck sank instead of what it could do. Also, no mention of the stolen Propeller on this Soviet/Russian Destroyer.

It is nice to learn about a museum ship, but these DDs were second class to the longer ranged and more capable Udaloys. No American sub was worried about a Sovermenny. These DDs were not legends. No the USSR did not dominate the oceans of the world with these DDs or with their Moskva, Kiev, Kirov. The US Spruance class DDs were longer ranged, modular, and well rounded to fulfill ASW, AAA, and Gator protection roles. This video would be better titled "Naval Museum Ships: Bespokoyny."

Shouldn't this ship be classified as a Frigate instead of Destroyer ???
