Naval Special Warfare Support "Make-A-Wish"

CORONADO, Calif. (Oct. 21, 2019) Andi Valaitis, from Willoughby, Ohio, lives her dream of training with the men and women of Naval Special Warfare (NSW). Components of NSW Command teamed with the Make-a-Wish Foundation to allow Valaitis to experience what it is like to participate in SEAL training and Special Warfare Combatant-Craft Crewman operations. NSW Command is the maritime component of U.S. Special Operations Command, and its mission is to provide maritime special operations forces to conduct full-spectrum operations, unilaterally or with partners, to support national objectives. Navy training is no joke. I joined at 17, 7/71.I remember a SEAL E-6 came to our ship recruiting Fleet Sailors to try out for BUD’s. He showed us a video, it was like boot camp times 10. We all shook his hand and went back to work.......lol. We just came back from Vietnam and we all thought, damn the enemy let us live and these guys want to kill us.........lol

MR.X , Plank owner USS Shasta AE-33, GMG3. No “A” school, I had to work my way up, went to the fleet an E 1. 2 tours Vietnam, 73-74. And yes, we were still bombing when the war was officially over. Our ship won every award the 7th fleet had to offer. We were considered one of the best Deck Departments in the 7th fleet, of which 3rd Division is part of. Unlike current times, having women aboard a ship was against all Naval Custom and Tradition. Underway, off the coast of Vietnam we worked 16-18 hrs. Pushing ammo to the Enterprise, Forrestal, and Ranger and other various ships. To my knowledge there’s only about 1,500 Seals. A bit short just to man 1 AirCraft Carrier. I do believe the SEAL’s live a pretty laid back life when not on mission. I’m just glad I got to wear a white hat Navy Uniform. Happy Hunting.......I do believe the Submarine fleet is just as elite, but they keep things.......QUIET. The last Captain of the Shasta was a Woman, she made Vice Admiral.

Second, I said what I said because that entire training pipeline is a whole different story when you actually go through it. It’s so easy to say, “that person has such heart, they will make it.” Doesn’t fucking matter, it’s so many other things that contribute. The way you are hardwired, your upbringing, your maturity level (not many people understand true maturity) your fitness level, you can’t be a turd or you will not last. It’s survival of the fittest. The only way to know if one will do it is if they do it. End of story

This the best Make a wish I’ve seen yet! Because the wish is something that’s not really common. Most kids nowadays in my generation don’t care about Special Operations and SF. When you see wishes it’s normally to meet celebrities and Hollywood all the basic trendy stuff. The standing that these guys use to have on the youth isn’t really there anymore and it’s sad to see. ( the wishes with celebrities a lot of times only last like 5-10 minutes and it’s like a meet and greet) she got to spend a whole day with real badasses.

Very cooooool! I totally support make a wish foundation. My son was diagnosed with leukemia and his make a wish was to spend it with the USAF at Nellis Air Force base in Las Vegas,NV. It was totally great, he loved it more than anything. Although I’m in the Army 😉. But still he was happy as could be. Thank You make a wish foundation, and the USAF!
