I can tell you when I was in navy boot camp in 1965 in San Diego, there was no basketball, volleyball or any other sports activity. There was however, a lot of calisthenics, push ups and sit ups. Along with many hours on the grinder. Then going to class to learn about the UCMJ, and some Navy history. Then taking tests to see where you would be placed, after graduation from boot camp. Actually boot camp was pretty easy both physically and mentally, once you understood that you were becoming a unit. Working together. That takes awhile. Then you received your orders. Off to a new adventure.

I was born in 1964 went to NTC/RTC in april-june 1984 , Not much changed inbetween those years we didnt have basketball and volleyball courts thou good video !

Boot Camp Company 185, Mar-May 1962. I disliked every minute of Boot Camp, but as a cocky17-year-old high school dropout, it was exactly what I needed at the time. CWO4 USN Ret.

RTC San Diego Feb. 19-May 14, 1964 Company 158 Company Commander MMC James A. Hanley Jr. That's where I turned 19 years old.

Bootcamp July 1971, company 224. Don’t remember any basketball or volleyball. A lot of marching around with our pieces….Springfield rifles. We had an obstacle course that we ran maybe twice during our bootcamp. There was also a tear gas chamber. Small arms and fire fighting was done somewhere outside of San Diego. A short bus ride from RTC. The machine shop scenes bring back memories, I went to MR “A” school there right out of Bootcamp. The wood block floors were intended to soak up any spilled oils. MR “B” school would’ve been only for guys who had re-enlisted, not guys on their first enlistment or just out of bootcamp.

Was there 1/16/1963........Was home on boot leave when Thresher went down. Then "A"school.....was.home on leave when Kennedy was shot.....
