Yes we still call it a 'bhatak' too. Love the look of old havelis. They don't make houses like that anymore. My grandparents home in Samanabad Lahore is like a haveli too. I've never seen such thick walls in my life. It has a grand semi circled entrance with 2 large pillars....and she's right whenever we stayed there l never felt too hot even in the summer months as the house was always cool inside....

Such a sweet house. Reminds me of my nani's house in Sialkot, Pakistan. I have two questions: firstly what is the area of this house? I'd love to someday be able to have a little courtyard house but not sure if it's feasible or not for certain dimensions. And secondly, does the courtyard help with the temperature in summers? Your nani mentioned it in the end so I'm wondering if it's the combination of high ceilings and a courtyard, or just the courtyard's air flow system that keeps the house cool.
