TV in the US and the UK is so different! But what exactly makes British TV so British, and what makes American TV so American? Let's dive in and chat specifics!
Jay Foreman: / jayforeman51
Thank you so much for watching! Hope you enjoyed it!
If you're new to my channel and videos, hi! I'm Evan Edinger, and I make weekly "comedy" videos every Sunday evening. As an American living in London I love noticing the funny differences between the cultures and one of my most popular video series is my British VS American one. I'm also known for making terrible puns so sorry in advance. Hope to see you around, and I'll see you next Sunday! :)

Julianus Victor nah I think it’s more because London is like a bubble. Since being at university in the south of the UK, the amount of Londoners that I’ve known that don’t know anything about the rest of the UK baffles me. Of course not all Londoners are like this.

I’ve noticed this whilst watching sports on tv. I watch a lot of sport and am from the UK so the norm in the sport I watch where the presenters will look and talk to each other when discussing whatever game they are analysing. However watching the NHL on US TV is that the pundits will talk and look at the camera when discussing the game

You should see drug ads in US magazines. I work for a heath magazine and since it's required by law to include all the side effects and everything, drug ads are typically 2-4 pages! And the drug company has to pay for those extra pages, they don't get a flat rate like your actual ad is one page but since you have to have 3 pages of fine print we'll just throw that in. Nope gotta pay for your pages of fine print which easily will be five figures. Says a lot about drug companies in the US...

I love hearing someone talking intelligently and accurately about something they actually know a lot about (rather than what you usually encounter, which is wideboys bluffing their way through topics they actually know nothing about and getting very angry if you correct them).

I've heard fellow Newfoundlanders call others "me old cocky". I've jokingly called a friend a cunt. I would never seriously cuss at someone unless they absolutely deserved it. As said in the video, there are definitely words I would never use because they are simply too vile, and when I hear someone else saying them I judge them immediately.

This is so true. Listening to any BBC radio station is a wonderful experience. The minute you switch to a regular station you realise how stressful it is to listen to a program constantly being interrupted by advertising. I've listened exclusively to BBC radio for the past 27 years and will continue to do so until I die. Please don't ever privatise this amazing institution.

I don't think it's been mentioned, but when US cartoons were shown in the UK on channels like boomerang and cartoon network, they stuck to UK ad breaks and that meant there were parts where an ad break was obviously meant to go like a cliffhanger moment which would go to black and then the scene would continue slightly after without an ad break. I remember it most on Scooby Doo.

I've watched this video a few times recently and I've finally worked out why it appeals to me so much. It is so refreshing to see someone passionately talk about how remarkable the BBC is. Yes it has its issues but it really is an incredible institution. I honestly believe it's as important as the NHS

@@sirwizalot7164 Hi! I'd love an example of this propaganda? I'm very open minded and can change my mind if presented with strong enough evidence. A call of propaganda has to be pretty strongly backed up, I'd need a very strong set of examples to go with you on this but open to it. From what I can tell all sides of the political divide tend to not be keen on the BBC, which to me is a strong indication that it's doing something right. It has its problems, not exactly delighted about the coverage it gives to the likes of Steve Bannon or Tommy Robinson but most institutions have their issues. It doesn't mean we should dismantle the whole thing.

@MichaelKingsfordGray Hi there! Sadly not a BBC employee, although I'd love the wages. Also thankfully no mental health issues. I do know several people who do have their problems though and it really does upset me seeing what they're going through. To equate my very mild defence of the BBC with such issues seems a bit below the belt. Not to me, I can take it, but trivialising mental illness is something I personally don't engage in. Each to their own of course, your right to free speech is incredibly important. Luckily we have an institution such as the BBC through which we can express these views.

@MichaelKingsfordGray Well I'm genuinely interested. I've been quite open with my opinion but you don't seem to be sharing much. If I'm wrong I apologise but I'd be keen to know your opinion. Very open minded so there's a chance you could convert me.

@MichaelKingsfordGray To your way of thinking. Is that not the whole point of debate and discussion? I'm trying to understand where you're coming from but it is difficult as you don't share much. If you don't want to then no problem, that's your right but if so there's no point continuing with this discussion. Regardless, an interesting exchange which for the most part was fairly civil. Another rarity these days.

@@richardhammer187 I thought matt smith was a great doctor in his own right - great acting and lots of depth, but the writing that came with him just changed the whole vibe of the show for me so it just didn't feel like doctor who any more.
