I noticed her Samsara jacket! We love samsara! I have a fleet of 170 buses and have all of our non-school purpose vehicles with Samsara. In Covid I bought a Peterbilt and petitioned the company I was with to get samsara to be compliant in Canada for new changes so I got to enjoy samsara as a truck owner and I’ve referred 4 more companies to leave other providers for them! They’re the best and next week I have my introductory flight to begin my private licence with my local flying club. Keep the videos coming Matt!

“Proceed to coliseum…”. “Where’s the coliseum?” I know the airspace well - not for the faint of heart. Ive done GA into KSFO but vastly prefer the experience outside the Bravo over Napa (KAPC) or the space slightly North (KVCB, etc) near Lake Berryessa. That’s why i love the area N/S of KLLR. Stiff breeze, gusts, terrain, beauty, and a tad less radio insanity.

Had a family funeral near Shelter Cove this year. Probably was about 10 miles as the crow flies from there, but an hour and half drive. Middle of nowhere doesn't even explain it. Directions to the cemetery were "Turn off the road at this sign, and drive 45 minutes until you see two houses on the right, and then it's right on the left"

Thanks for the great video Matt! It was especially meaningful to me because 40 years ago as a college Freshman, I got my private pilot license out of Palo Alto. Yes, all those airport transitions made you learn radio procedures very quickly. In fact, at the time, Moffett Field was an active Naval Air Station which meant that flying from Palo Alto to San Jose required two frequency changes to fly VFR for 15 miles. It was before PAO was KPAO, before the circular taxiway at transient parking was paved in the center, and there was no ATIS and you could just wander out to the instructor bench by the runway and watch takeoffs and landings. It was a blast! BTW I guess I gravitate to congestion because I grew up in Manhattan and got my driver's license there. Of course, I would learn to fly in a hyper congested airspace :-)

I join the others who were excited to see Shelter Cove in your video. In 1990, I did a self-made Vision Quest (meditation in a wilderness, three days solo, no food), I set up my camp half-way between the two ends of Shelter Cove. Throughout those three days, I didn't see a single person. It really did feel like utter isolation and somehow was primeval. I sure did enjoy my first meal when I got back to civilization!

I heard about Shelter Cove long ago. However the weather generally does not cooperate and with there being no instrument approach we could never make it out there. Fortunately, not long after getting our 310 we were able to fly there. Luckily for us the day we flew there the weather was blue skies and warm enough to wade in the water. One note about your departure from Palo Alto. You should have taken the 101 transition. It would have been much easier and taken you right near SFO airport and over the city of San Francisco. As always another great video. Thanks for sharing 👍

Haven't watched yet, but that looks like California's northern coast. Shelter Cove. Which is a really long drive, or quite a short flight from the Bay Area. The road is very twisty. There are roads, but they are one of the few places I have ever given myself motion sickness. Some roads are for off road vehicles only. A lot of the beaches are walking access only, so despite there being some roads it's well named. The coast north of there all the way to Alaska is lovely, I am not so much of a fan of the southern coast. Ah, you get to the point that it's the coast north from there that's lost. That freeway is I880, through Oakland, then becomes I80/I580 at the maze, then I580 over the Richmond Bridge. I880 is also called The Nimitz.

My memory is better than i thought (but not perfect). I saw the photo and immediately thought it was River (KLLR). The runway looks the same - I remember people walking their dogs on the taxiways. We couldn’t get out for food so we just wandered and ate Lunchables at the plane. A wonderful getaway from the grind of SF.

Shelter Cove: “Looks like a great place for a horror movie”? Close (~200 miles?) major scenes for Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds” were filmed at Bodega Bay. Some other time you should check out “beautiful downtown” Ferndale, with its quaint Victorian buildings. Fill a bag of sweets at the Golden Gait Mercantile or the family owned chocolate shop Sweetness and Light. Snag some unique ice cream flavors at the Cat Shack. Perhaps some baked goods and other delights at Mind’s Eye Manufactory and coffee lounge, or at Erlei’s Baking It. Nearest airport: RohnervilLe (Fortuna) FOT.

BayTour is one of the best privileges you can do as a pilot. Did it a few times from San Carlos. Pass SFO at 1,200ft, circle Alcatraz at 500ft, buzz the rich people at Tiburon (1000ft), over the golden gate, touch ‘n goes at Half Moon Bay, then back to SQL over the fault.
