I just found out the Valkenburg flint is called vuursteen...so this is helping me find some. Now I have a new stone to acquire as well while I'm at it! 😀Thank you! I'm good with map and compass (used to teach it so had to learn correctly), and it will be fun using the stone side-by-side and observing how it works. Can't wait!

It is wise to have good compass in the pocket specially in the woods and people should know at least basic compass use and no matter how small country is where someone lives in. Also for the newbies the variation is another name for the magnetic declination that is more often used term. Good video Tom love the handmade decorated leather box.

Except the poles are shifting rapidly rn so it actually might be now sadly. I was on North 79 from Pitt to Erie PA my compass the entire time read just a little off of due west the entire time. When I was a kid and up till a few years ago it always read due north.

Hello Tom, the compasses are normally all corrected to north. It is safest, always a good map with it, itself after the time, the season thereby consider. And yes, a good compass with it. Laugh, when I was a young man, why did we always have a needle and twine with us in the paratroopers? With it one could build oneself a compass in case of need and consider the approx. 10° well, if one made an adjustment with the time. Grin, belonged to the 4 weeks survival training in Siberia to it. @@cimbrerbushcraft-vikingheritag another advantage I have - I _always_ carry the Svea fueled up. Before leaving home (5340 feet) I vent the stove, then tighten the valve. When I need to light it at 10,000 to 14,000 feet I just crack the valve. Due to the pressure difference, fuel flows out the jet, and fills the priming cup in just a few moments. After dinner, let the stove cool, then tighten the valve. In the morning, I carry it around as close to my skin as I can get for a few minutes to warm the fuel, then crack the valve open without putting the stove down on a cold surface, and fuel will run down into the spirit cup/well. No syringes or stove gasket, that stuff is scary.

Thank you for your video! I hope you and your wife are well, and safe. Also one of your subscribers asked how to keep grounds out of your kuksa when pouring coffee. One way with ‘cowboy’ coffee is to put a little splash of cold water in the kettle just before pouring. It helps settle the grounds. You could also put a spruce tip into the spout to filter if needed.

Wow! the Sun Stone sounds fascinating! Cool! I'll find one and give it a try. After all, even on land one can not always find the sun on a cloudy day! I love the little box video. I know about using maps and compass because I used to fly small planes but I always love the "old way" before all of the fancy GPS and other aviation technology! Love your videos! I always learn so much! Can hardly wait until I can return to Danmark to visit family! ATB!
