Have been enjoying your videos since the beginning. So many other sailing channels showing their own trials and tribulations when preparing for new anti fouling, so you're not alone. They all have their own methods but it's a harsh job. So well done for sticking at it. Good job guys

Hey! Thanks for following along that's so nice to hear. You're right, this is something all sailors go through - it's the price to pay for the amazing voyages you get to have with your boat :)

Half the time you're making it up, the other half is mistakes? My friend, that's exactly how life works. Early starts and willingness to learn will take you both a long way. Bravo!

I have found the best way to remove old A/F is to use a bastard file with the end (end away from the handle) ground to 90 degrees. Sure it takes of a smaller amount at a time but does a better job and your bodies will love you for how much easier the work is, you will be able to work longer before you fall apart.

Hey Nick thanks for the tip that's good to know for next time!

I feel your pain... We've only recently anti fouled our (new to us) Jeanneau SO 40.3 and are back in the water now. Keep going guys, its a tough, dirty job - but, why pay the yard to do it for you? There are more important things that you can't DiY - save your money to spend on them!

Hey Andy! Nice one must feel good to have yours back in the water again. Yeah, I see what you mean but then again inhaling this stuff really does feel like it could be taking years off your life! That was our logic anyway

Life on the "hard". When you see things you really should do something about, so you do. Even knowing they're good decisions they can spiritually drag you down. I did hear pizza and ice cream so I know you got to do a couple of things you enjoy. Oh yeah and I heard friends in there also. This is to long. Be safe and don't forget the goal.

Yeah, it's tough and hard and endless because you'll have to do it next year too. There's no easy way except pay for it and that's even harder. Good luck to you and just keep at it.

Very true! You can't escape it really - unless you copper coat which would be pretty sweet... maybe one day!

And let the Fun begin. Remember you must do this to add your soul to boat. It's a right of passage. At the end of it all you will have less $$$$$ .But you will have learned more about your boat and have more confidence in her. So hang in there . It will be over and you'll be sailing ⛵again. So until next Sunday. Aloha and Mahalo from the Big Island 🏝of Hawaii 🏝

Great episode as always! Good job on the antifouling so far, we managed to get away with not doing that job when we got Indiana, but pretty sure we aren't off the hook forever!

Hey guys! Thanks so much. Lucky you for getting away with not having to do your antifouling yet! Would love to go copper coat one day but it's a big job...

After having done this many times the old school way; (scrape/sand:( I have found from both a cost and personnel time, Paying or renting a soda blaster is the only way to go. Nothing is more satisfying then being able to take it down to gel coat if you wish and then apply epoxy barrier coat and antifoul yourself. Like you I am on a strict budget and have found this well worth it. Keep up the good fight. ❤

Love watching you two go through the ups and downs on your voyage. I’m so impressed with how you get along so well and your zen like attitude to the travails that come your way. How did you both get so wise yet still so young 😉?! Lars - I’m curious: are you Canadian? (I’m from Vancouver - Trying to place your accent). I’m a local sailor and your odyssey is inspiring me to venture out into deeper water. Thanks for that!
@NavikaSailing3 жыл бұрын
Hey Peter, thanks for the kind words! Lars is half Norwegian half English but grew up moving around a lot and lived in the US when he was younger so that's where the accent comes from! Definitely worth venturing out somewhere new, there are so many incredible places to discover! Thanks for following along and all the best :)

The otherwise of sailing and sipping champagne... did you not manage to secure an angle grinder to do the grunt work of sanding?
