It has a removable, cleanable filter, and the motor & impeller are on the clean side of the filter, which makes it already far better than most of the 'diy vacuum cleaner' projects I see, though I'm a bit worried about the impeller rubbing on the inside of the bottle-it might wear through it.

Of course. But I think the video crossed the line bw 'money/time saving life hack' and 'hard work geek only tries to prove that he COULD do it if he has all the time and don't mind the inefficiency'. Nowadays you can get a descent, at least like twice/thrice better working vacuum with 50bucks and god knows how much that battery cost.
