If bootcamp had actually been like this, I might actually remember something other than screaming the first night. That first night was a blur, and that's the way it's supposed to be--a full-on mental blitz to break you out of the civilian mentality and get you on the way to being a sailor. The camera completely transformed the RDC's into friendly guides.

Does anyone else wanna say how soft this is and how it was so much harder when they went through it? We haven't heard it before so we really need yalls thoughts that are so much different from everyone else's.

I just finished 8 years of active duty and some aspects of bootcamp are still fresh in my mind. And trust me you are going to find it hard at times, you may even think to yourself "why did I do this?", but once you're out of basic and you arrive to your first ship or first command you'll look back at it and realize it's the easiest 8 weeks of your career.

Maybe they prettied this up for the video but seems A LOT kinder & gentler than I had it at San Diego boot in 1974.

Mark is exactly right, i got the most sleep in my navy career in BC. [Precursor: I was an EM/snipe on an LHD class ship (extremely undermanned)], I had a 6 on/6 off watch rotation with an 18 hour work day. In my 6 hours off I had to manage washing clothes/eating/showering/sleeping. Topsiders worked a 4/8, 6/12 rotation, but mainly in an air-conditioned area, thus not dirting their coveralls/utilities(BDUs now). Choose your job wise, and remember, never volunteer for anything in boot camp

Hell nah. This is for the cameras. They screamed at the airport on the bus off the bus etc. can't believe they water it down that much just for cameras

I'm sure by the time you go to boot camp, it will actually be this easy LOL
@matt48296 жыл бұрын
Ya it is this easy it's not like it's the Marined. There not going to yell in the airport like the marines. I was in the Navy and it might be a little waterd down but literally any one can do it. How much physical work u gonna do when living on a boat??
@directorbeau6 жыл бұрын
MATT RYAN123 I was in the Navy for 4 years and never lived on a boat. All depends on your rate. But yeah we didn't have to do much physical activity either lol

This is definitely a different Navy than I remember...Orlando RTC, 1990. Seven weeks of yelling, screaming, and cycling our butts until we couldn't move...then, the last two weeks were a cake walk!

You went to Orlando? My dad was there back in '89.

They skipped out the part where they make you take off your boxers and put on those damn skivies in the sea bag room, also skipped the part where you had all those net bags and they make you pour everything out, count them off, put them in one bag then another and into your sea bag. I remembered a lot more yelling than what they showed here lol. And if you're shipping out as a Corpsman, consider this cake walk lol

I love it how these videos make the RDCs look so "nice". They're definitely promotional videos. SMURFS, DON'T BE FOOLED!! Your RDC will not be this nice when you get off of that bus. Have fun. You will learn a whole new meaning of "making it rain" (this does not involve throwing cash at strippers). I arrived on 08/07/01 and left on 10/18/01 (Division 417). I will never forget this experience.

no..it is like this now..there is no yelling or what not.. went through in 2004 and it was like this
@Hawqis19 жыл бұрын
Back in February 2003, I was in boot camp and the only yelling and screaming was right as we got to basic. After that, the only screaming was yes sir or ma'am, no chief, that sort of thing. When my dad was in, it was like marine corps boot camp. I was expecting marine corps style since I was in a navy jrotc in high school and that boot camp had two marine di's. That's what I was expecting. Got a lot less than I hoped for.

I agree. it was not hard. all i did my senior year of school was drink beer and eat big macs. i was out of shape when i showed up. and it was not hard. we had two guys crying at night for the first week. That i never understood. Moving away from home was not life ending. I Almost went back as a Corpsman a few years after i got out. i had my Medic license from the fire dept. and was looking for full time work. I ended up finding a decent job before i singed up.

Your overall score doesn't matter just scores for certain subjects.To be a corpsman you need to do well in General Science, Mathematics Knowledge, and Verbal Expression (reading basically).
