RDC: “we don’t need you” Big Navy “please please reenlist we’re running out of people”
@cynthiacrawford6147 Жыл бұрын
They don't pay you for that? You don't get great insurance, education or anything out of it. It is cheaper to rehire than to completely train a new person. And you know who you hired back into the navy. The people that I know retired from the navy are comfortable with their life. Same with Air Force.
@garrettgonzales3556 Жыл бұрын
That's because their dumbasses tossed out alot of good sailors due to their lame exam system. Saw alot of kids who could pass a paper exam but folded when it came time to do the real job. Lacking motivation and just doing the job because it has to get done.
@garrettgonzales3556 Жыл бұрын
@cynthiacrawford6147 I volunteered for another six year term after 8 years done and they told me no because I missed an exam by two points. Had a clean slate, awards and was in charge of training new sailors but those two points were my make or break. I knew how to do my job very well. 5 years later they called me and asked me if I could come back, after they tossed me out. Yes I got an honorable discharge.

I loved my time in Great Lakes because I was raised by a WWII Marine and I knew how to follow orders. Dad taught us how to march at a young age because my older sister was going into band, he taught us take care of ourselves in a fight and duty, honor, respect and love of our country because those who came before us fought and died for our freedom. Dad also kept us in shape and how to eat and exercise because he went to sleep many times without food because of the intense fighting I knew what he meant after I spent time in service.

My grandfather was a Vietnam vet, my mother a Navy vet and later Army reserves, and my father was a Navy vet. My grandfather never told me much about the war (for obvious reasons that I don't blame him for), but he did tell me one story that stuck with me to this day. He was guarding one of the gates in Vietnam (I can't remember its name), his best friend was there with him, they were taking care of civilians, when suddenly a child walked up to his best friend and gave him a hug. Of course, he hugged the child back. Then, the marine felt a grenade go into one of his pockets. At the time, the marine uniforms had a ton of pockets, so as the kid runs off, he's patting himself down, trying to find the grenade. Not long after, his body got blown in half. My grandfather, in a fit of rage, unloaded an entire magazine into the kid who blew up his best friend. I still remember what he told me after he told me about that last part: "The worst part about it was that he enjoyed it." I knew Vietnam messed up a lot of our soldiers, but I didn't know firsthand how much until then. My father served 20 years in the Navy and retired as a GMC (for those who don't know, that means a Gunner's Mate Chief). He was going to sign up for another contract, but his detailer was corrupt and tried to force him to go places he didn't want to if he didn't agree to certain orders, so he retired that year. Out of me and my 3 brothers, my birth was the only one he missed because they extended his deployment for about another 6 months, so he missed my birth. It's not that bad, though. I don't blame him. He told me why he couldn't make it, and I understood how the military worked, so I wasn't upset at all. Now, I officially graduated basic in April and am currently training to be an ET (Electronics Technician). I hope I can live up to my father's example, and I hope I never have to go through what my grandfather did

in usmc bootcamp at san diego in the 70s i remember running pt and seeing the navy boots sitting on bleachers smoking ciggs and listening to a boom box, drinking pepsi.😂 i was like wtf ? our DI's would stand in front of the soda dispenser in the chow hall saying" milks good for you private". the couldn't stop you from drinking soda. but in reality they could in my platoon. those guys were beasts. platoon 1067 1979.

It is way softer than when I went through it in 1960, totally different, especially the first 2 weeks, 3 guys dropped out the first week. 2 years later I went through counter insurgency training with the Marines, it made Navy training seem like kindergarten but it was worth it, I still don't know I made it through but I was a lot younger and loved a challenge and it was definitely a challenge.

In the new “ships” the recruits barely even have to freaking go outside, they reduced the time length by 2 full weeks, and replaced almost a week of actual training with sensitivity seminars. There are signs everywhere that read “Remember RTCs: Bad Language Does NOT Mean Good Training!”, I began to feel bad for those going through now. They’ll never get that extra bit of rigor, toughness, and backbone drilled into them by some jacked 6’3” perpetual E-6 Hull Technician with nothing but pure disdain for the world. If they’re can’t pull you into the head to smack the shit out you before you go to the fleet, who will? Who, I ask, who?!
@Centermass007 Жыл бұрын
Idk where u heard this “barely go outside from” cause my division was going out basically everyday for the full 10 weeks only time u don’t go out Is due to extreme weather conditions. The rest of the stuff I can’t necessarily disagree with tho.
@GnomishFireworks Жыл бұрын
Just went through basic at RTC, its not as bad as you think. They dont physically hit you, but they make up for it. They definitely still have 6'3 jacked perpetual E-6s with nothing but disdain for the world that care about putting good product out into the fleet and they will fuck you up as often as they feel like it if they dont feel that youre exibiting proper military bearing and espirit de corps. They curse like sailors, they give a shit, and they will PT the whole division into the ground for hours for the fuckup of one person to instill that team spirit. Maybe relax a bit, they arent as soft as you think.

My time in Navy bootcamp was interesting. Swear we had Mom (IT1), Dad(Chief) and Big Bro (ET2 who became ET1 during our time). Having Chief tell me I impressed him after out pfa was one of my proudest moments. Went into the run still 30 sec higher than I needed to pass. I managed to cut off 45sec and passed with 15 secs to spare. I know it sounds dumb but I was beaming for like the next hour.

USNRTCGL, was there back in 1979, some 45 years ago. In fact, this week then was just before Service Week, when our company worked the various services for things like laundry, grounds, mess, etc. (I was in one of the mess halls overnight for the first couple of nights before hospitalization for pneumonia). Unfortunately, was in hospital for most of that week, but, since no training lost, wasn't set back, or, what they called ASMOed back then. Although I did keep fighting, as much as I could, I was out by 23 May 79, using a family tradition as cause. If that was truly the case, half the COs should have been out for similar cause. Back then, there were 3 boot camps, but enlisting in Atlanta seemed to somehow get Great Lakes over Orlando, unless you were a female (Orlando was it then, only one for female recruits). Anchors aweigh, and good luck to arriving rickys.

This may be nit picky, but these guys were clearly at the early stages of boot camp. It would have been better for the chief to say something like “if you’re not ready, gimme everything you’ve got and we’ll help you get there. But if that’s too much for you, then we don’t need you.” Regardless, this still got me geeked up even though my boot camp was over 30 years ago 😀
