I had this experience with Navy Federal in VA Beach back in 2020. I took out 30k cash, the teller handed me the money without counting it. I asked him to count it he refused to. I request a room to count it in he refused that, at that moment I knew something was up. I had to count it in the lobby in front of customers coming in and out the branch putting my wife and I at jeopardy. Around 10 - 15 mins of counting he slid me another 1k. I said is this my money and he nodded yes. He knew he was caught. A valuable lesson, never leave the bank without counting your money. Once you step foot out the door it’s on you. I spoke with the manager and called Navy Federal never once received a follow up.

I was a member of NFCU about 5 years ago and closed out the account. Still someone went on line and applied for a credit card in my name from Navy Federal with a 30,000 dollar credit limit. Before I became aware of it the fraudsters had charged up $5000 in less than 24 hrs. Their intentions were to spend the entire 30,000 and leave me hanging. I believe to this day it was a navy federal employee.

Years ago, I froze my accounts with all 5 credit bureaus (Experian, Innovis, ChexSystems, Equifax and TransUnion). It's free and permanent. I was provided PIN numbers that I could use to temporarily unfreeze accounts if I wanted to apply for credit. I remember after doing this, I got a bunch of credit denial letters from Fingerhut, Best Buy and a few others. This showed me that my preventive action paid off. I didn't want to pay someone to "monitor" my credit, I cut fraudsters off at the pass myself

Lack of oversight and controls by the bank. I work for a company (not a bank or financial institution even) in a department that handles financial transactions. As an employee I not only have to have periodic criminal background checks but financial background checks - the idea being that bad credit and financial difficulties could leave one susceptible to bribery or fraud. A person who cuts checks isn’t the one who signs them. The person who initiates a wire transfer isn’t the one who releases it. A third individual has to sign off on everything before funds are released. Incoming and outgoing transactions are reconciled daily and all accounts reconciled monthly by a different department. And we have yearly internal AND external third party audits. There instances of attempted fraud that happen every few years but the perpetrator is swiftly caught and prosecuted. The widespread theft and fraud happening at NFCU is a management problem.

Could be we may need to start using our small community banks, that aren’t these continuous issues/problems like these major well known banks.

@momz426 ай бұрын
It’s not a “ military bank“. It’s a credit union that serves the military and vets. It’s been a solid credit union like any other credit unions. Better than banks. Js.

It’s not only happened in Navy Fed. I have been a member for over twenty and have never had any problems with my account. I’m sure crooks are in other banks and credit union. Navy is one of the best institutions that I’ve been involved with. Their staff all over the country are great on the phone and in person, and I am sure I am not the only person that would be saying this.

My son just cashed a check drove a little way stopped in the bank parking lot to text..... saw a hooded man with dark glasses walking straight toward his van no other cars in that area. He took out his 45 placed it on the dash. The hooded man instantly made a 180 and walked back toward the bank. This was in Tukwila Wa near Seattle.
