Thank you so much for this video and your content. I aspire to become a flight surgeon as well, but its nearly impossible to find information on what a day in the life is if you don't know anyone that is one. So again thank you😭🙏

Hey Doc, what are your thoughts on the Aeromedical PAs and what their day to day workflow is like compared to yours?

Thanks for the video Doc. Applying for residency this year, likely an IM program. Considering Navy or Air Force.

Hey Doc im an HM and was thinking of doing somthing like going to med school. So that beside the point. Does your flight doc time count as GMO time? Like could you be a flight doc and then at some point be a SMO( i was on an lpd where i only had one doc, so he was my SMO)or do they cancel eachother out?

Hey thanks for watching! The Flight Surgeon tour is a specialized GMO tour - while GMOs tend to be with Marine battalions and Navy readiness clinics, Flight Surgeons are usually with Marine or Navy squadrons/air wings or aviation clinics. Depending on the billet and the needs of the Navy you can be a SMO...but usually it's not that common especially if you only have your intern year under your belt. You'll usually be a Department Head or Senior Regional Flight Surgeon more so than a SMO. But if you are a fully board certified residency trained doctor and became a flight surgeon, then there is a greater chance of you being a SMO. Usually Flight Surgeons who are SMOs are usually SMOs of smaller ships or small departments. Generally if you want to be the SMO of a clinic or hospital then you will need to be fully residency trained, and if you want to be the SMO of something aviation related like an aircraft carrier then you will likely need to be trained in Aerospace Medicine residency (like Flight Surgery school on steroids).
