Indian AIP ( Phosphene Gel) is being tried out on a KIlo class submarine in the HCL. That is the actual reason fpr the delay in Project 75I. You may recall that DRDO gave the fuel cell technology to L & T and L&T is doing the modification and testing at the Vizag base. It may enhance the endurance of a submarine upto 45 days.

My humble suggestion is that both DRDO, ISRO and other defence psu should involve various IITs and similar other institutes, from the initial step of any project. It will help not only in their work load distribution, but more ideas will generate from such a wide talent pools. It will also help in research & development in which ee are lagging in certain sectors. It will be a win-win case for everone. Of course, required security measures should be there.

1. Excellent information about AIP technology 2. But it is not clear how long DRDO will take to test and finalize its AIP technology and whether India should acquire Spanish or German technology in the meanwhile. Further, it is understood that once DRDO technology is available, it will be ported onto Scorpion class submarines. So one more follow on video is required!!

Sir...in my limited understanding there is only 1 way forward ie a 3-pronged action plan to minimize "lead-times", which in the current situation is more important than money...First, incease the additional scorpenes from 3 to 6, where all 12 could be upgraded when DRDO AIP testing is complete...Second, opt for 6 Spanish S-80 class submarines to be manufactured at L&T shipyards, this will help us to have 2 production lines when our own submarine design is complete...Third, the decommissioned Kilo must be provided to DRDO to integrate & test its AIP and various other systems which would go in our own design and could also be used for mid-life or life-extension refits for our older Kilo & Type 209s...we must not forget our main adversary in IOR is/will be china, therefore we must have 15-18 modern submarines (ie upgraded scorpenes, S-80s & DRDO Design) just for tackling china...for pakistan we can very well do with 10-12 AIP-upgraded Kilo,Type 209s & a 4-5 modern submarines...by 2032-35, in total we need 30-35 submarines ie 10-12 upgraded Kilos / 209s & 18-24 modern submarines ie Scorpene / S-80 / DRDO Design

That's impossible...it took 10 years and more for mazadock to complete the manufacturing of scorpion class submarine...for larsen and turbo let's assume they will take 8 years to make 6 s80 submarines but there are American technologies in s80 submarines which will be a big hurdle and we have not chosen who is the winner of the contract p 75i. By 2035 it is impossible to give the 1st submarine....yes if navy wants another batch of scorpions submarines they can go ahead but they will order only 3 not 6 and that will only be dilevered by 2035.

@@sanchittandon9196 Sir...first batch of Scorpenes took time due to establishment of manufacruring & other allied processes...now if follow-on is done i think Mazgaon should be able to roll out 1 sub per year easily...as for S-80 at L&T, i think being a private enterprise they will be able to move much faster for establishing all manufacturing requirements & resources....the presence of US technology in S-80 might be problem but then so is the German arms-control regime, case in point being the engine for Zorawar...the fact is no one will share its technology with us but our focus must be on 'learning' those things which might help in designing our own sub...i might be wrong but S-80 is bigger than Type 212s & if one of our private players can learn its complexities, than that design & manufacturing experience could be adapted for our own future submarine designs...otherwise i dont think any private player will want to invest in manufacturing an unproven DRDO design, after all they are answerable to their investors & government hand-holding cannot reduce the inherent risks PS - the 2032-35 is a bit unrealistic but not impossible, then again 2040 too is not bad...i am sort of fan-boy, dont blame me if i dream a bit 😁😁...kya pata kabhi koi sapna sach bhi ho hi jae

Why not use modern batteries instead of AIP (like the Japanese Soryu class)? Batteries can be recharged so long as fuel is available, but the fuel for AIP takes up a lot of additional space & most likely consumes a lot of energy just to maintain it (esp. in the case of liquid Hydrogen). Why is AIP still preferred?

How is this considered an AIP ? Fuel cells can be run Directly on diesel as well. Instead of water, the output will be in the form of CO2. Secondly, the range is limited also by the supplies, not just fuel. The required oxygen can be released through chemical reactions.

But Sir, by watching the current situation of P75i, it seems like the target of 24 modern submarine by 2030 is very difficult to achieve as any of the contender doesn't match with our complete requirements. S80 have too much imported part and is not proven while German side is unreliable and there submarine carries unsafe hydrogen tank. Don't know what will happen and when we will see P76 submarines 😥😥.

Why doesn't India construct 12 submarines simultaneously using technology developed by both Germany's Thyssenkrupp and Spain's Navantia? There will be concerns about the cost, but with India's GDP expected to double to 8 trillion USD by 2027, we should be able to afford to purchase 12 submarines. The technology absorbed in through these 12 submarines and Scorpene submarine will lay down roadmap for all futuristic submarines being build by India and also become exporter of Submarines in future.
