I would love to know what Andy thinks about the current John Chapman issue with the Medal of Honor Museum. Kind of seems a bunch of Navy SEALs on the committee at the Medal of Honor Museum don't want to have the appearance of being outdone on the Battlefield by an Air Force guy. Its just kind of odd all these Navy SEAL podcasters are very quiet about this issue to include Andy. And not only is Andy quiet about this, all these Special Forces podcasters seem to have closed ranks about this issue and don't want to say anything.

I am a software engineer and barely graduated high school. Never went to college. It all about certifications that you can take for $100 - $400. The college education that is required on the job application is for HR. If you make a certain amount of money per year HR will be looking for that. Bypassing HR is key. This means you need to network with the people that work in that field and they can get you in.
@AlbertalorianАй бұрын
Yea, all the top IT guys I know, did the same. Hated highschool, no post secondary, just learned to do the work and got every cert they heard of. All have done well, some had to start cleaning up Database junk files, but it go them in there.

There are a ton of millennials 35-40 that tried to go to college for real professional degrees that were destroyed by 2008 crash that had to leave school to help provide for their families. A lot of us are carpenters, concrete finishers and laborers. We work hard every day but were not able to get apprenticeships as electrical and plumbing unions were not accepting applications because of the crash. Most of us don't make shit cause we don't have a license system in these trades. I have paid more than double the value of my loans and still owe almost 20 years later. I still have to decide between insurance mortgage and student loan payments any time work even slightly slows. I didn't even want to go to college but was told my whole life that if I didn't go my life would be ruined. Turns out going destroyed me financially for life. I only went for 3 semesters

As far as student loan forgiveness I'm agnostic. I took out the loans trusting the "educated" people in my life. They are my debt and I will pay them off some day
@John-hi6klАй бұрын
The biggest issue with student loans is the way interest is handled. Should be .5% to cover admin fees and not compound. I have 4 years left and have paid 1.5x what I took out. I don’t want forgiveness, I want a fair loan

I agree with Evan that it’s highly unlikely that Cooper survived. If he somehow did, there’s a good chance he’d have been barefoot too. A 180 mph wind is going to tear off anything that isn’t tightly fastened to your body. Richard Marcinko wrote in his autobiography that he and his men tie their boots as tight as possible and make the laces into impossible to undo knots so wouldn’t land from a jump barefoot. One of the issues higher ups had with him was how much he spent on boot laces.

Totally agree with Evan on having a degree vs blue collar. I taught high school and college 35 years. My teacher pension is eaten by health insurance, so I worked cashier at three dollar stores for seven years (truly loved that, btw!). I told a friend my former teaching colleagues (often snobs toward blue collar people) should work dollar stores for six months and come down from their throne! Frankly, steel workers make a financial killing in retirement around here! (They do deserve it, btw). I get$1k a month pension. They get $5k a month, and their social security payout is sky high, compared to mine.

I think there is an entirely sperate aspect in regards to this discussion as well. I recently graduated with a BS in Geology and managed to obtain a new role a few months before even actually graduating as well as a few of my other classmates while the majority are still jobless almost 6 months after graduating. From my experience, most of the people in my graduating class (and I know this might sound crazy) have the misconception that the degree directly translate to money/career when there is nothing further from that fact. Legwork (like networking and building relationships) is such a huge factor that I want to say they are just lacking in that skill. Also also, specifically in my situation......most of the people pursuing the GEOLOGY degree didn't want to work outside or actually do most things associated with geology. A combo of being called a scientist and the false assumption of a geology degree being easy was enough for handful of them to hitch their wagon to something the found out the hard way, they want nothing to do with.

Suppressors or moderators are a Section 1 item in the UK, which means on your certificate, though some individual Chief Constables of the police have tried to ban them outright, assuming they have the power, which they don't. A seasoned professional deer stalker with a rifle license was told he was not getting his moddy on his ticket, so asked for the Chief Constable to put that in writing, which he was ignorant enough to do. The stalker then took the letter to the Health and Safety Executive, who were obliged to launch a prosecution of the policeman, as he had personally prevented the stalker using all reasonable means to prevent hearing loss, and therefore the policeman was personally looking at a humungous fine, and not his police force. Oddly enough the moddy appeared as quick as a flash on the stalkers license. Do you fancy suing Brandon Herrera in his next job as Medal of Honor and Purple Heart recipient ATF director??

There are between 800 and 1,000 billionaires in the US. If you liquidated all of their assets - all of their property, their investments, their ownership stakes, their art, cash, possessions, everything - took it all and confiscated it as taxes. It would fund the US federal government for....~7 months. All the talk and arguing around taxes from politicians and pundits is designed to make you think that it matters. Raise taxes on the 1%, lower taxes on the middle class, blah blah blah. It's all to convince you that tiny swings in American's individual taxes can have an effect. It gives them cover to print money and spend without limit.

@14:30 over the years I have learned that anyone who calls themselves an "intellectual" has exactly ZERO useable skills and self-reliance in the everyday world. Despite what others may lead you to believe, our country is SO advanced and SO well-designed with layers of social/financial safety nets that we are at a place where an "intellectual" is able to survive (and get praised).......both physically and financially.......not because of the usefulness of the profession of "intellectualism" but because our country is able to balance their lack of functional skills. As an aside, I looked at the video views on KZbin for the usual mindless brainrot (an influencer/creator reviewing another influencer's/creator's video compilation) and the popular ones get like a million plus views in a matter of days (if not hours).........yet the "do it yourself" and "how to" videos get a few thousand over the course of months (if not years). I think this is very telling of our society and where it currently stands.......both from the KZbin/technology babysitter mentality and the general lack of interest in being self-reliant. Am I wrong?

Excellent discussion on education specifically types of education and the blue collar skilled trades route has been targeted by academia probably since rhe 70s, get a degree or you'll end up digging ditches. I don't have ANY college education, not a second.. Most of my friends have college degrees and almost all of them have a job having nothing to do with that degree and some of my younger friends are still paying of their debt. I went to a vocational high and took additional trade classes after, I have zero debt, no mortgage,no car loan and no credit card debt. Ofcourse I still have bills buy have zero debt and owned my house at 39 years old. Some of my friends with degrees went to trade school later and left the white collar world for the blue collar word and make more money being a tradesman.
