In about a year after I started learning judo, I was 13 yo, and some master black belt adult paired with me for practice out of fun. He did nothing else to me other than a foot sweep. Sounds simple enough, and I already knew and applied it pretty well being 1 year into attending the class, but BOY COULD I DO NOTHING against that man, one second we were standing, and the next one I was there on the floor, very gently too. It felt surreal, but there I understood the immense difference between a black belt and an ordinary person.

One thing I love about the martial arts world, and what I miss about training, is how the intensity, aggression, and competition are mixed so beautifully with acceptance, openness, patience, support, and mutual respect. When you join a good dojang or boxing gym, you're joining a family. A family that pushes you past your limits and makes you a better person. Granted, there is always some new member who comes in with a crap attitude, but such people usually don't stay long.

Ikr- BJJ is so different from any other style of martial arts it's just incredible. If anyone ever askes me which style I think is the most effective, which style would help them the most in everyday, on the street style situations- whiteout a doubt it's BJJ. Nothing else even comes close. Not only does it train you to be able to effectively defend yourself- it gets rid of your ego. And with no ego you'll find it's very rare you even have a situation. But- if you do, you have a better chance of defending yourself and others successfully than with any other style of fighting.

True. I have a shitty (barely blue belt) guard, but I sweep like a black belt (cleaned house in NAGA back in the day..4 years of wrestling before I started BJJ). The key to setting up sweeps is to first attempt a sub. When your opponent defends the sub, that is usually where the sweep comes. You have to do what we call "chain wrestling" hitting multiple techniques one after another. Doing so creates opportunities.

Hi, guys. I hope everyone is taking BJJ classes as a sport because this is what Jiu Jitsu looks like against a striker and kicker (and if there are two guys against you, you're instantly doomed! The other guy will just kick you in the head while you're trying to cuddle his friend): How Kazushi Sakuraba Destroyed the Gracie Clan m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5u5fmSbh7iDoqc I've learned that the US Military and Secret Service, and even Israel, the home of Krav Maga, are learning Systema (which is a combat system tested and proven by the Russian Special Forces for survival during war times, unlike Jiu Jitsu, MMA and other sport martial arts, which are not only exclusively for one-on-one, but don't train against weapons). I wish Systema were taught in schools (starting from kindergarten) instead of useless P.E. If everyone were skilled in self-defense, there would be less assaults, kidnappings and rapes because evil-minded people would hesitate to attack anyone, knowing they'll be in for a real fight, battling for their own lives. Here's a link about Systema: marylandsystema.com/systema-russian-martial-arts-is-one-of-the-secret-services-strongest-weapons/

Fun to watch. That style of fighting is exhausting for any extended amount of time. The BB effortlessly put in the first 4 sweeps. Sweeps 5 and 6 took just a bit longer to execute each and were getting a little sloppy. He never got to 7 because he was exhausted. With the BB thoroughly exhausted the BlueB was just able to hold his own and run out the clock. Shows what a gulf there is in skill between Blue and Black. Blue has all the basics in and is good at them too a degree and has all the basic knowledge the Black belt has. However, the Black belt has largely mastered them, moving with a speed and precision that bewilders the Blue and easily moves inside his OODA loop. But at least with his level of knowledge, the Blue knows exactly what happened to him after the fact and can learn from it and gain motivation to master the skills he has.

What is OODA short for?
@darnation8650
@darnation8650 Жыл бұрын
@@AntiKiwieCS Observe, Orient, Decide, Act...the term was coined by one of the first fighter plane dog-fighting Aces in the early 20th century. He developed the concept to help train new fighter pilots. The fighter who more quickly understands and executes can "get inside" or disrupt the opposing fighter's OODA loop, thereby dominating the fight to victory.

I like how people always add “marine” or “navy seal” in the title, as if that holds any weight whatsoever in martial arts. Especially against someone who does it for a living.
