Still with a warm smile and kindness in his eyes he recalls parts of his youth and I’m watching this ( only a few min in, admittedly ) like … this is a man of profound depth and character, someone who really understands the world and how it and the people who occupy it work. I have to say in the last 2 years I’ve dedicated a ton of my spare time (doing laundry, cooking, driving, etc.) into watching stories, movies, podcasts, documentaries, etc… about the US military and our veterans, I think bc the first couple I watched really hit me that I truly had no idea what the actual story was about Afghanistan and Iraq or just how much they sacrificed and how it affected them and I feel so strongly about needing to understand and teach my son the same bc I feel not many people my age do (34) and it breaks my heart for them and the least we could do is educate ourselves! I’ve watched most of your videos and out of them all this has been my favorite and I think it’s bc of the way you can truly see how humble he is although it’s just a video! I love the way he seemed to want the guys he was teaching to truly get it, understand fully and pass! That is so extremely rare these days. I also loved how he mentioned when they were deployed on his last deployment, getting the input/opinion of the rest of his guys before moving forward, even if it changed his mind or not, just giving those guys that opportunity has to make a huge difference in the way they all feel going into combat! and that is something I haven’t seen/heard in all of the ones I’ve watched! I think it takes a much wiser and awesome human being in that position to be able to do that! I would just like to say thank you both for your service! I know I’m only one person but I am truly thankful for you all!💚🖤

Pleasant interview, but Not OneHard Ball Questiond about His Experience as a black man in the seal community. There are a little over 2500 hundred “Active SEALS at any given time, but there only been about 250 black Seals since the inception of the program; “Why” ??? And what was that “Honestly” like, through every stage of his career (and even down range) ???

250? Idk about that number. I do agree with your take on the question. Yet you can't expect a white interviewer to ask that type of question.

Those who are of color don’t show up. That’s the answer, straight and simple. SPECWAR PREP, showed this to be true for me… I saw the colors of those who were there… Mainly white, and then maybe I’d say Hispanic or others, then black. They welcome all.. Navy retired guy here…non SEAL
@burrionkemp40314 ай бұрын
Probably because in that enviornemnt, whether its BUDs And seals, Ranger school and rangers, SFAS and the Q course for Green Berets, and the OTC for Delta, only the best make it to the teams and petty thinking about anything unrelated to being effective in combat shows up as mental weaknes in other areas. You cant fake it and get my with intellectaul and emotional immaturity. So the interviewer and the interview arent thinking about race, not when they were on active or now. Combat is the great equalizer and if you had petty racist beliefs, or even had to the time to have racist believes, it quickly dissapated when the shit hit the fan. Also, when we would go thorugh quarterly swim twesting so we could classify everyone as basic, intermediate, and advanced. We did this quarterly so everyone knew their place in line if having to cross a water obstace when on patrol and where to put everyone (weakest in the middle, strongest on the ends). I remember we had a lot of brothers that had never been in a pool, the ocean, the rivers, they grew up in cities and were never exposed to a lot of the things growing up others were, hunting, fishing, mouintain climbing, etc and many would drop like rocks in the pool with a low body fat % and little or no experience. They used to tell me they were afraid of being in the water. You see more african american rangers and green berets than seals, and I would probably look at the % of african americans and as % of the total force, or combat arms, see how many try-out for these units, and how that % compares to the total force. Its all voluntary and if you want to go, you can go, no one is holding you back. On the other hand, you can get a green to gold scholarship after meeting certaing criteria, and as an enlisted you get to pick a college and go through ROTC and come back as an officer, costs covered by the military. I did this program and the only schools i could select from were historically black colleges. So to answer your question, it didnt come up because its not relevant in this environemnt, everyone is mature enough to have already risen above that limited thinking. Your are judged by knowing your job, and being lethal, dependable, and tactially and technically proficient, if you are not, you will catch shit and it will have noting to do with your race, and if you were petty enough to blame it on race, it was just an excuse.
@complexblackness4 ай бұрын
@@burrionkemp4031 If Black servicemen have experienced racism in regular units, historically and literally to this very day. Then we know they've experienced it in Special operation units. You can't speak to their experience, as theirs is going to be much different from yours.
