Navy swim test | I can’t swim | Tips for passing 2020

A lot of people weren’t great swimmers when I was there and most of them passed the first time (thanks to the short class they give you before taking the test) and the rest who failed just needed to take swim classes everyday until they can pass their swim test before battle stations. I have never heard of anyone who got setback or separated for not passing their swim.

I ship out next week ✨crazy nervous bc of the medical test and the running but I’ve been training on pavement so hopefully I’ve built enough muscle to breeze through the track I know it’s smaller so we’re required to go around it 12 times I’m 17-19 so I got at least 15 mins or less to pass or pray I pass at least 14 or under 🙏🏾I want this so bad like bruh I’ve been in dep for a year and I can’t fail now

I'm going to boot camp like next week so I'm glad a FEMALE is giving advice and instructions on how camp will be cause I have high anxiety levels and this helps. But I just want to know if the water of the pool is regular chlorine water or not? It may seem like a dumb question but not everyone uses chlorine water in pools, they sometimes use like salt water or something like that. Also I have sensitive SPER eyes so will the water bother my eyes or hurt them in any way?

Im only worried because I can swim above water just fine. I can swim underwater with my eyes closed. But that's in like 5 feet. I have fear of heights and I can't really see under water with my eyes open. It's all blurry. Any tips?

I would say since you already know how to swim, when you dive into the water just keep your eyes closed since you can’t see. And if you fear is of heights alone I would suggest when your walking up the ladder to the tower to just look up DO NOT LOOK DOWN. Your not standing at the top long. As soon as you get to the top and your standing two abreast just continue to stare straight ahead

Yes. If your ASVAB score meets the rate (job) requirements and the rate (job) is available the detailer will present it to you

Yes once you start splashing in the water it’ll capture air and create a floatation device. No I didn’t sink at all

No everyone will jump off the tower on the last day regardless of their level of swim experience. You will do that every single time you go to the pool. So it’s important you can comfortable with it or you’ll never pass unfortunately

Outstanding job, and good teaching young lady. You didn't "fail" all those early attempts; you were learning to succeed. In the 60s (went I went through Marine boot camp) non-swimmers had to jump off a 30-foot tower at attention. The swimmers got to watch us.

Call around in your area to see if there are any private swim lessons available or maybe you can go to the rec center. I’m sure if you even reach out to a recruiter they could possibly make arrangements to get you to a pool (idk just a thought). But I think once you get comfortable in the water you’ll be fine. I learned that I was sinking everytime because I wouldn’t allow my body to relax. So get comfortable with the water and practice floating. Our bodies are made to do it 👌🏾

Great video ! I am transferring over from Army to navy and have to go through the navy’s veteran orientation program which includes the swim test, my biggest anxiety is the deep water jump and getting back up to the top after the jump.

You can take your swim test until it’s the week before your division is set to graduate. They will go over this in detail with you at the swim brief before you get in the pool. At that time we actually pre-mail our graduation letters home with the intention of passing our swim test on time. Those that don’t pass will be set back to another division (baby div) and you get to make a phone call home telling your parents the news about graduation setbacks.

After a certain number of failures you will get set back meaning you will not graduate with your division and be placed in another lower “baby” division. That division will be with future sailors that came to boot camp after you

The Sejm test is taken at the beginning of boot camp. You have until you graduate to take the test. If you fail you can’t set back. You have to pass the test you graduate along with other tests

No, you can’t wear a swim cap. Yes, you can bring a wig. “Hair, wigs, or hair extensions/pieces must be of a natural hair color (i.e. blonde, brunette, brown, red, gray, or black). Hair extensions/pieces must match the current color of hair. Wigs, hairpieces and extensions shall be of such quality and fit so as to present a natural appearance and conform to the grooming guidelines listed herein. Meaning I’m laying on my back with my back and bottom towards to bottom of the pool. My head is faced up towards the ceiling. My ears are submerged and slightly at the surface. And I’m floating and gliding from one end of the pool to the other.
