Serious question for Charley -- doesn't the hyper-masculine historical focus of James Bond provide a unique lens to expand representations of women in film? A news series couldn't possibly achieve the transgression represented by a female bond -- why wouldn't this be valuable? #misandry4eva

I think it would be a very blunt transgression to use a female bond. I like that it would be provocative and would breathe some new life into the character, but I think that can be achieved in the universe rather than using the name. A lot of people assumed "James Bond" was a title and not a name of someone, and that was put to rest in Skyfall in the cemetery. Austin Powers was a satirical bond, a subversive bond, without ever being named James Bond. I'd love to see a former "Bond" girl become a main character after say, the death of James Bond. That sounds fascinating to me.

Cap: For many people there will be no acceptable excuse. Bond: Don't really care anymore, but if I had to narrow it down, no one from the UK. "Make something new": Yes, take pieces from established franchises, change what you want, make something 'new', do it well, hope for the best, and maybe in the future people on the internet will be arguing over the casting of your latest installment.

I appreciate the discussion about the female James Bond. I agree with Charley, I don't see how giving an actress that role would fit. But doing a spy movie featuring a bi/lesbian character would be interesting and fun.

Imagine Ms. Anderson as Bond coming out of the shower with a towel around her while a maid is tidying the room. She gets a phone call and while her back is turned the maid produces a syringe and tries to stab her. With a stone face, 007 grabs her by the wrist and just back hands her in the face causing the maid to fall across the bed where she sobs and admits to being coerced. Is the scene sexist? It seems like it might be if Sean Connery were doing it, but it also seems like a very James Bond way to handle it...

Did you watch the Preacher premiere or do you plan to watch the show?

If the X-Men were my first traditional comic. Preacher (along with V for Vendetta and Johnny the Homicidal Maniac) were my first graphic novels. So I've been very, very cautious these many years waiting to see where it would go - film, Hbo, cable. And how close they'd stick to the reasons I loved it so much as a moody teenager. I saw the premiere...I LOVE Joseph Gilgun's Cassidy and I think it's going in the right direction. But so far it feels like Preacher light. I think we'll review it at the end cause right now I'm too much of a butt clenched fanboy waiting to see what they'll do to be objective! What did you think!?

I did not find the misandric tone "giggle funny". The Cap/Nazi thing? Yea, it's pretty much a slap in the face to everyone who loves the character. Stealing JAMES Bond? Are women so weak that they can't come up with their own characters?
