Globočnik is Slovenian surname, not Croatian. It relatively common surname in Slovene speaking Carinthians. You getting basic facts wrong makes me question how reliable is your other information.

I've been researching the history of Slovenia as I'm moving there to be with my fiance and I caught that in the video. I was beginning to question the historical sources, so thank you. My fiance also told me that Trieste, where Odilo was born, was a Slovenian city and is now Italian. The narrator said the town was Austrian. I'm beginning to wonder if people even know Slovenia exists and think it's either Austrian or Croatian.

@@belle8i narrator is correct in saying Trieste was Austrian city as it was part of Austrian empire. It was contested by both Italian and Slovenian nationalists. City itself always had Italian majority although Slovenians were significant minority with around a third of people in Trieste being Slovene. Suburbs and countryside surrounding the city were predominantly Slovenian. Let’s hope nationalistic narratives are a thing of the past and people start viewing all of the heritage, be it Austrian, Italian or Slovenian as a source of pride.

Although in theory his closest subordinate, the man who in reality ran the A.R camps, Christian Wirth, and Globcnik didn’t get along very well and at least on one occasion, Wirth went behind Globocnik’s (and Himmler’s) back and turned directly the the führer’s chancellery in Berlin for instructions.

Not really. Nazi ideology was relatively dominant (dictatorships in Greece, Spain, Portugal, Italy etc.) As was pseudo science like eugenics (USA, most of Asia, the UK in the earlier century) and while Austria is not Germany they are a "common people," as they would have said at that time, they share a language and a lot 8f cultural and historical ties. After all Hitler wasn't born German either.

Slovenian, not Croatian ancestry. His father Franc was from Tržič, a small city 20km North of Kranj. And served as a lieutenant in Austrian army. Slavicazation, one of the funniest terms ever used in this historical context, BTW. In lower parts of Austria, Slovenians were a big majority still 100 years ago. Now there is maybe 10% of them left. Germanization was the only thing that happened in that area. Half of the Eastern reichers in Karinthia have surname of Slovenian descent. But they forgot who they are.
