Vadym Vukolov was born in Makiivka, Ukraine, moved to Crimea as a young child, and was imprisoned from the age of 14. He received his first passport only at the age of 30, when he was serving another sentence in Rostov. That's how he became a Russian citizen. Like the rest of the prisoners who agreed to join Wagner's group, Vadim hoped to be pardoned. However, the war turned out to be different from what he had imagined: three hours after appearing on the front line, Vadym was captured. In an interview with Liubomyr Ferens, the mercenary talks about surprises at the front, explains his Nazi tattoos, and decides whether he is Ukrainian or Russian.
