I’m pretty sure 4-0-0 means all of the 4 committee members agreed to admit you. This function should mean admit - waitlist - reject. Congratulations on your acceptance, and I’m in the same process to apply to Stanford right now but I’m applying to Stanford for graduate admissions! Have been admitted to UPenn and Columbia, hopefully either Yale or Stanford can admit me as well! Keep up the good work!!
@tyrantjesus40055 жыл бұрын
How were you admitted so early?
@user-tn7qj7mj2l5 жыл бұрын
Tyrant Jesus The programs I applied at Columbia ad UPenn review applications on a rolling basis and I submitted applications in early September so that’s why I got offers from these two schools this early. Stanford and Yale review applications simultaneously so that’s why I’m only going to get answers from them in March.

I'm not sure why, everybody here feels like they need to go to IVY league schools. Just go to a decent state school and you will do just as well. Even do two years of community college to save some money. You can possibly go to the state schools for less or even free! Why have all this debt? These schools are $75,000 a year or more. That's the cost of my whole 4 years of school for Mecanical Engineering. Besides most people I have interviewed with actively avoid Ivy League students, because of a superiority complex and lack of hands on experience.

Hey nazjaa, this doesn’t exactly pertain to Stanford but do highly selective schools like Stanford and the Ivy’s have a “cut-off” score for applicants? I’ve read somewhere that some schools don’t even consider your application if your score is below an certain guideline.
@marcmcreynolds28275 жыл бұрын
Best to ask a particular institution whether they use a cut-off and what it is. Then you can maybe save yourself the cost and time of an application. But the answer will probably be "no" for any of the highly-selective colleges. Public state colleges, OTOH, may have either cut-offs which keep you out, or "cut-ins" ; ) guaranteeing admission to in-state applicants with grades/test scores above certain thresholds. The bigger and more useful question, though HS applicants never seem to think about it, is "Do I want to go to the highest-rated school I can get in to, maybe struggling and not doing well, or a school better matched to my level of academic ability where I can thrive and be successful." Students always assume that being admitted to the most competitive school they applied to is a good thing, but then four years later after they end up going there that may or may not turn out to have been the case. Back when I was shuffling through (engineering) job applications looking for people to hire, poor grades from a premier college were less appealing than good grades from an average one. [Remember that when you don't get in to your "reach" college... it was all for the best! : ) ] There is a solid alternative for anyone who maybe hasn't been exceptional in high school for whatever reasons but is excited about learning and wants to get as much out of their higher education as possible: Community college for the first two years. Not everyone matures academically at the same rate. If your first two years of HS sucked but things were starting to fall into place junior or senior year -- too late to save your GPA -- give strong consideration to a CC as a way of repairing that situation and moving forward. The academics is often perfectly good at those. I did two years of Calculus at a CC while in HS, and then went straight into upper-level math classes as a freshman at the Ivy where I got an engineering degree. The main thing is if you're going to do a CC, go at it as if you were at a college as demanding as you dream about getting in to. Work yourself harder than what the profs require. Mostly "A"s are a forgone conclusion, because compared to others in your classes you are working so damn hard. Extra hours a day on top-quality papers (i.e. getting it written is just the start -- now comes the rewrites until it's as close to perfect as you can get it); additional problems from the math/science texts. Set a floor of at least four hours every weekday after classes for school work, both class assignments and self-assignments such as reading great works of literature, learning Statistics, ??. Then when your great grades get you in to a great four-year, you've already equipped yourself with the self-discipline and academic skills you will need to thrive in a high-pressure environment.

so based on what you read in your files, does stanford read the qb as well as the common app?
@nazjaa5 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure, I don’t think I submitted the common app for stanford! Sorry i can’t remember 😩 Either way, my Common App and QB essay were the same. The only extra things I submitted to Stanford were the supplements

Do regular decision applicants get interviews?
@nazjaa5 жыл бұрын
Yes!
@tchit87925 жыл бұрын
Wow, the interview can make a big impact on the decision I guess. My interview for Penn did not go well at all so I am definitely expecting a rejection tomorrow, but I honestly don't care I didn't invest much effort into the school.

If it’s meant to be, it will be. If they don’t think you’ll fit, they won’t accept you. Colleges have a good idea of who will succeed and fit into their culture
@nazjaa5 жыл бұрын
It can, but it can also have a very small role in the admissions process. Either way, good luck with Penn!

How much did school academics like gpa and sat/act scores play a part?
@nazjaa5 жыл бұрын
I can't say for sure. I assume my grades and scores just emphasized good academic performance in addition to everything else in my application.

I’m a sophomore at one of the most competitive high schools in the state. It’s hard as it is to get into an Ivy League college, but my environment makes it even harder. Left and right, everyone is trying to be better than the person beside them. Being a person who isn’t really at the top, I’m trying to do my best by standing out, and this is by being a 12 season athlete. Soccer, wrestling, and track for all 4 years. I figured that would make me stand out along the people who spend their time purely focused on studying. Someone told me, however, that that isn’t enough, and I need to start getting myself involved in clubs. How am I supposed to do that when I’m already invested in sports? And on top of that, I have 2 honors classes and an AP class as well. I would like some advice as to know whether what I’m doing is enough or if that person is telling a fact. Btw, your videos are so helpful, you are really hardworking and I feel like that’s the absolute best characteristic a person could have. Reply back if you get I chance :)
