Coach Nick breaks down this offense du jour, showing you how many teams in the NBA use the initial double high post lineup to get good shots for their best players.

The Bobcats run a really cool variation of horns in which the point guard will dribble the ball to the wing, so that he can receive a double screen from the two high post players who then set a double pin down for the strong side wing, while the point guard either drives to score or executes a dribble pitch to the other corner player, who can then drive to score or pass it off to the player receiving a the double pin down. Love this stuff, thanks coach!!!!!!!!!!!!

We've done this in the past with a lot of our Lakers breakdown, plus look up our Michael Jordan vs Kobe Bryant video, where we show you the differences in how MJ and Kobe scored in the triangle

Awesome Video Coach! Finally i understand that the play is not broken when the teams run horns different :D Altough i watch nba for a few years now its hard sometimes to really see what is happening on the floor.
@DynamicUnreal11 жыл бұрын
Watching these videos makes you analyze the game much different when you see it live, and not just watch as "entertainment" but you are actively trying to look and see at what the offense and the defense is doing.

that was awesome. some player notes (unrelated): 1. Kirilenko - that skinny white guy is an amazing finisher, i consider him the ultimate glue-guy. he is so special, amazing defender, great slusher off the ball, husler, passer. uses his frame to get everywhere. 2. nope. thats it.

just think of how beutiful the thunder could have run that play at 3:17 , if Russ would've cutted backdoor, after screening for durant, who could've thrown a nice touch pass to him, because KD's getting so much attention from the defense there and Russ has a lay-up.

This works great against the zone - if it's a 2-3 - the guards have to match up on the big men - opening a lane for the point guard...

I think they're going to move Bargnani and I think their future is bright if the players can mesh well - they've got enough talent to do some damage

I've been watching your videos of horns and some others as well and I can't help but think this might be the most flexible offense to run with. Its also easy to run and has almost limitless variations. I wonder about the biggest disadvantage of using this though, if there's any.

I can see offensive stuff when I watch games, like I can see when coachs run plays and what each player's role is and stuff, but I dont really have the vision for defensive plays. ... Can you do some more defensive videos? (for example on the lakers, if u could find any)
@SecretBaseSBN11 жыл бұрын
Coach, 2:39 mark, Steve Blake's hands aren't up anticipating pass and clapping/begging for ball from Kobe. That's smalltime. Your breakdown illustrates how HORNS sets the table, but you still gotta have the individual parts ready to serve their roles. WEAK from Blake there in that frame if you ask me. Bean Producer, SB Nation
@bballbreakdown11 жыл бұрын
Well, technically UCLA starts with a 2 guard front. 1-4, if they're spread across FT line extended is a cousin of HORNS...

Hey Coach Nick could you please do a breakdown on the recent game between the Raptors and Pacers? It was an amazing comeback and I would love to see your input on the whole thing!
@bballbreakdown11 жыл бұрын
I disagree - I think you'd have to see more of a free form offense like the triangle that simply has options, since the defense will know how to take away many of the quick hitters...

Coach Nick, how would you attack a 2-3 zone using horns' first option? Or is using horns even necessary against a zone?
@andreialexandruparfeni71297 жыл бұрын
Mason Metcalf Get the ball to the high post and set screens to get 3s. Or get the ball to the corner and, if you have a good center, allow him to seal 1 on 1 against a smaller wing in the post.

these same customers are also probably not given the chance to become aware of the nuances you talk about. it's an untapped market and forward thinking businesses would key in even if it's just to the test the waters. i never gave 2 shits about how basketball plays worked but after stumbling across and watching one of bballbreakdown's videos, i became instantly interested.

Hey coach I'm a Toronto raptors fan what do you think about their team ? Do you believe their team can contend for a playoff spot next year? And what do you think about the trade rumors surrounding Andrea ... should he be traded or kept as an offensive weapon of the bench? Your opinion will be greatly appreciated. :)

i think the Spurs only occasionally run double high post... they usually start their sets with a high screen and roll instead but yes they do run horns sometimes and i thought coach nick would have put some Spurs footage too...

It's not horns, and what I don't like about it is that there's no way the PG can look for both cutters on either side of the floor at the same time. One of those actions is wasted...

The casual fan who watches ESPN doesn't want to hear about HORNS or semi-deep basketball analysis. They want to be entertained, they don't care about nuance. ESPN, like any business, caters to their customers.
