I am not sure, whether is me only, Initially i played this game on my legion go 1080p, the fps up to 75 to 100. Mostly around 90 to 100 fps cut scene at 75fps, but after few update, it suddenly slow down to 55 to 70 and stuttering a lot.

So there was a Windows update that went out at the end of August that should have improved game performance across the board for AMD Ryzen-based CPUs. Other than that not seeing too much about Windows updates that could be affecting performance. Personally I never have seen those types of FPS when rendering at 1080P on the Legion Go. That's why we put together the settings in this video that render at 800P and use integer scaling to help with visual fidelity while maintaining good FPS. It's possible that a game update might be affecting performance.

@@InnoVisionGames end up i don't want to play in windows, i find that playing nba 2k25 in windows, there is a lot lagging while game match starting. I feel the movement choppy, after few seconds then only back to normal. So i switched to CachyOS, i find that it runs a lot smoother, and easier to install compare to Bazzite OS. You can try make a CachyOS for Legion Go to compare the performance.

Which one do you like better for performance on triple a games and which one feels better?

@@ben7301 to be completely honest the Ally X is typically having better performance especially right out of the box for triple A games. But we can achieve similar performance on Legion Go as well, but after tweaking many parameters. But there are and will be some games where having the extra memory like on the Ally X will be an authentic advantage. For example games with many objects and a far drawing distance. E.g. Starfield with good visual quality. Also there are games that will always have problems no matter what device due to Windows for example Elden ring suffers from random frame drops because the game is poorly optimized when loading texture data. The game likely has a single rendering thread which starves the GPU for data. But in SteamOS the Eldin Ring runs way better because less resources are needed to run the OS and developers have finer control over the scheduling algorithms. I truly enjoy both devices, but the Ally X is way less fuss to get most games running smoothly. If you get AFMF2 working with NBA 2K25 on the Legion Go, please share your results and we will be happy to re-run the test with the Legion Go. We do not see it working with the official driver yet. We understand that one can side load drivers and possibly get it working. But in our tests with the side loaded driver in NBA 2K25 the performance was worse in the Legion Go, so we didn't present this as an option for our subscribers. @@10lilrascal dang bro, coming out with the good questions! Probably not the answer you want, but as an engineer, I believe in the right tool for the job. If you play mostly plugged in and have a restricted budget, I would say go with Legion Go. If you want to play the latest triple A games, you will need the best driver support, then go with the Ally X. If you need the best battery life, go with the Ally X If you need a device to replace a laptop and need good support and a big display, then go with the Legion Go. If you want to just play and not fuss with drivers and settings, then go with the Ally X. Hope this helps! @@10lilrascal welcome to the crew! 💪 In general the out of the box experience of the Ally X is better than the Legion Go. If you are able to fetch a nice price for selling your Go, it might make sense. But I wouldn't sell it at too big of a loss. We haven't had a chance to put our video for it together yet, but if you are able to install Steam OS (Bazzite a Steam OS like Operating System) you may find the experience way better. If you don't specifically need windows or Gamepass, this may be a good look. If you are fed up with the Legion Go software, then you won't be disappointed with the Ally X.

@@10lilrascal I actually dual boot on my Ally X and recently took it with me while traveling. I was blown away by the battery life! I could play Half Life 2 (it's an older game) with settings maxed out, 13-watt TDP, hitting 120 FPS the whole time. With 5+ hrs of battery life. I've found on Bazzite with Legion Go things run cooler at the balanced 15--watt TDP. For games that can run at lower TDP we should see an improvement in battery life over Windows, but likely a marginal difference at the middle to higher TDPs.

I have an rog ally x but eyeing the legion go for its bigger screen, i mainly play nba 2k, is their difference noticeable in gameplay or not that much? From the video side by side it seems not by much, i was thinking a 1.8-inch difference is quite big when using tablets so it will be the case here, hope u can help me out, should i get the Go for the bigger screen or stick to the X? @@sidewinder244 There are some examples of noticeable frame drops on the Legion Go in the video for example: 09:20 - 09:28. Things are running nice, then randomly drop. I have seen this behavior on both the Legion Go and the ROG Ally X. But since the Ally X supports variable refresh rate, it's less noticeable. The frame drops can be mitigated by increasing the Legion Go's TDP from 15-watts to 17-watts. In a majority of games that have these random frame drops it's due to Windows scheduler. I love having the bigger screen on the Legion Go, it makes the games feel more immersive. I pretty much play my Legion Go plugged in exclusively. But also I love having the Ally X for when I travel or want to play in bed. If you have been playing NBA 2K25 a lot on the Ally X you will probably notice some of these subtle differences between the Legion Go, but none of these take away from my enjoyment of the game. If you do pick up a Legion Go, I would definitely try to catch it on sale! For example if you are comfortable upgrading the SSD, you can pick up with 512GB Legion Go for around $500 and then upgrade the SSD later. You can find SSDs on sale then possibly have a 2TB upgraded Legion Go for less than the 1TB model would have cost. Also if you are in the US you can pick up the Legion Go at best buy, which has a generous return policy should you find any issues. One thing to keep in mind is that MSI is coming out with an improved Claw device. The first one has been pretty terrible, but they may have learned from their mistakes. The updated Claw will have an 8 inch screen and use a 2280 NVME SSD which is easier to shop for. Rumor has it that the updated Claw will have a version with 32GB of RAM. With devices like the upgraded Claw coming out, I would be surprised if Lenovo doesn't come out with their own revamped Legion Go. It is for this reason I suggest picking up the Legion Go at a reasonable price. Glad you joined our channel, welcome to the crew!

Vram set to 6gb , all apps closed, startups diasbled, game set to high performance in windows, low settings, no cloth simulation, 720p no scaling @ 60hz handheld mode. plugged in 30w/35/37 with custom fan curve sitting @80c max (using cooling mode case) i think i shouldve went with a Z1e the least ..

@@cszn1332 ahh yea definably the Z1 extreme is the way to go. Across all handhelds out now, it's the best chipset by a long shot. Either way. On the standard Z1, you will want settings that more closely resemble the steam deck. In that case VRAM 4GB. Resolution set to 720P. Steam deck present. Low resolution textures. And use the in Game FSR2 settings to decimate the image resolution. Start with the 2x FSR setting then work up and down until you find a happy medium. @@Johnlmooring great question! For the OG Ally Z1 extreme use the exact same settings, except set VRAM to 6GB. Even at 6GB the VRAM will not get maxed out, but it's the smallest amount of VRAM we need to support the medium texture settings. @@Johnlmooring so in terms of the shaders if you change the VRAM size, change the GPU driver, or make a big enough change for the game's settings it will have to recompute the shaders. But after the first time it does a full build of the shaders, upon subsequent launches it will do an instrumental build of the shaders. Here incremental build means only the things that changed in the shader logic (like a game update) in between plays. All of this depends on how the game was programmed, but this is a typical workflow for shaders.

If need be I can simulate the conditions of the OG Ally Z1 extreme by setting my VRAM such that the remaining system RAM would be 10GB. The medium texture settings will cap out at below 6GB, so the extra allocation won't make a difference. Then the only variable would be the difference in thermals between the OG Ally and Ally X. I could use that to figure out some decent settings for OG Ally Z1 extreme.

@@Gabriel-d7m9g hey bro sounds like you don't have enough VRAM. The option will only be available if there is enough VRAM. Double check that at least 6 GB of VRAM is enabled in the BIOS. In case you missed it, we show you how to adjust the VRAM settings in the video. Also which device are you on?

@@GABRIEL-i9n1i got it, there is a bug in the game that folks ran into that caused the game to not detect the updated VRAM. Can you try setting the VRAM to 8 GB and loading the game just to see if we can get past adjusting the textures to Medium.

Yeah i also tried that but still not able to change the texture level. Hmmmn i saw one user here who ran to a similar problem and what he did was change something in the app data. Just dont know what/which app data he is referring to. 😅

@@Rr-j4x iinteger scaling and RSR will improve fps by being less computationally intensive on the device compared to methods like lossless scaling. Think of it like this. The frame is render 4x smaller than the display size the integer scaling will scale it back to the full display size. In general the filter being applied for the integer scaling is one of the fastest in computer graphics and requires very little overhead since the reduced frame size is an even multiple of the full display size. Lossless scaling (and other frame generation techniques like AFMF) introduce latency in the game because it's generating frames in between real frames. Where integer scaling and RSR increase the resolution of the output image at rendering time. So even though lossless scaling and AFMF increase the frame rate, it's at the expense of latency introduced in the game. E.g. more frames but more time in between controller input and game engine events. We have to pay the piper somewhere.

@@Waljones8 It's physics: - Any game can run at 60+ FPS if it looks like it was rendered on a PlayStation 2. - Games can run at higher FPS if we max out the TDP. But in this video our focus has been on the best visual fidelity while keeping the TDP at a reasonable setting that doesn't feel like we are going to melt the device. Furthermore, there is a big difference between peak FPS hitting 60 FPS occasionally vs maintaining a smooth frame rate. If we use the resolution scaling presets the game looks like it's being viewed from a mud puddle. It is for this reason we sought out parameters that let us use the medium texture quality with resolution scaling disabled. Update: I exchanged my Ally for an X and wow, huge difference. I had no idea the difference was that big. 2K25 plays a lot better on the X, especially with your tweaks. Only problem I’m having now is the game randomly crashes after I play a game in my career before it saves.

@@Johnlmooring thanks for the update, happy to hear the settings are making a big difference! I just checked and it looks like some people are experiencing random crashes. MyCareer on the PC and Xbox version of the games. For some people it sounds like they are hitting this crash 9 out of 10 times they play a game in MyCarreer. It sounds like 2K will need to issue a patch to fix this. Later today I will see if I can get a video of the crash and upload it to them. If I learn anything else, I will post and let everyone know.

After the game ends and you press a to go back to the locker room, it freezes and crashes to the windows screen. When I reload the game, I have to play the game I just played all over again, because it crashes right before it saves.

But it does look like 2K updated a related support article a few days ago: support.2k.com/hc/en-us/articles/32359228416019--NBA-2K25-MyCAREER-Gameplay-Issue Also one thing worth trying would be to disable the in game overlay in Steam. As well as disabling the AMD overlay. It sounds like there may be bugs with the game when overlays are enabled.

@@Rasmil If you are on Ally or Ally X: you need to make sure to set the resolution to 720p before launching the game, then also select 720p in the game settings. Then the Radeon super resolution setting will scale it up to the full 1089P display. If you are on Legion Go: Make sure to set the display resolution to 1280x800 and also select this resolution in the game settings. From there, the integer scaling will scale it up to the full display resolution.
