If Luka is asked to play off-ball, then the Mavs need to bring in a player who can run the offense play after play without problems. Right now, they don't have a player like that. Kyrie is a shooting guard, he's not a great point guard and every bench player on the roster is quite bad at running the point. That's the issue. I don't think it's Luka not wanting to let go of control, but more so that he simply cannot afford it because the roster isn't built for it.

Luka was the best player in the playoffs and in the finals. Period. But he does need to improve some things, I agree. Number one is getting in better shape and losing weight; then he will be faster and more nimble and won't get injured as much. Second is not getting so preoccupied with the referees. It's great that he cares (a lot of players don't) but he takes things to an ocd level, and this hurts the team. Last is moving the ball more, to setup his teammates for good looks and not relying on isolation basketall so much.

This is why i hate the argument that most rings = goat player. Lets say Luka plays exactly the way that he did, but kyrie averages 25, lively 15, and gafford 10 while the team shot 40% from 3 and won the series in 6 or 7. We would all he talking about how amazing luka is and the best player in the world. The reason the mavs lost this series was entirely on the rest of the team. Could luka have been better? Absolutely. But he played good enough to where had kyrie stepped up the way he stepped up for lebron in 2016 they would have won. The championship is never won or lost based on the star player. His 2nd highest scoring player was a 38 year old Shaq averaging 13 ppg in that series. All the noise about Luka`s "exposure" is so absurd it is laughable. Dallas barely made the top 6 in the regular season, it is a team full of young and not experienced players, Irving and Luka. They went through 3 50+ teams in a loaded West, destroyed the hyped Wolves with the new Jordan, nobody had Dallas in the finals, they made it because of Luka and he was with bad knee, bad ankle. They go in the finals against 64 wins team, that cruised though the East, have 5 awesome starting defenders, that can shoot also, Irving was bad in the final, the supporting cast was not good for the majority of the time and everybody are killing Luka, as he didn`t average 27 pints on 47% shooting and lost against Indiana instead of Boston team, that was bookmakers favourite whole season. Luka was far from perfect, but the only flow was the complaining, the real exposure is the Dallas ownership, for not putting good enough team around Luka to be competitive and dominant the whole season

It's difficult to evaluate Luka's 2024 Finals performance fairly when Kyrie played so poorly in Boston, and Dallas had no other bonified scorers. Frankly, if Kyrie had just been GOOD in Boston, the Final is still very much active, and Luka is the leading Finals MVP candidate.

Luka's main issue to me is him with the refs. Us as Dallas fans know he be doing too much. Also, just more effort on the defensive and he will do that cause he was doing it most of the 2nd half of the season. Boston just wore my boy down, exactly their game plan.
