I’ve been to a ton of Lakers & Clippers games over the last 30 years and still one dunks crowd reaction stands out to me over the rest. It was a Clippers vs Raptors game I believe in 2000 when Vince Carter received an alley-oop and dunked it 1 handed. The whole sports arena literally shook after that dunk, I’ll never forget that reaction.

If AG had been taking a three and Shamet was one toe’s worth in AG’s landing space and landed on that toe, we’d be at the monitor wondering in Shamet should get a Flagrant 1. But if Shamet leans one torso’s worth into Gordon’s flight path when he’s already 3ft in the air, causing a far more dangerous landing than jumping on a toe… Well, that’s actually Shamet playing such good defense, the refs call a charge on a crazy highlight, which they try to avoid normally for crazy highlights. How is landing on a toe worthy of a flagrant investigation and this isn’t?

I guess the larger overall point is that there’s rarely a net-benefit to making broad changes to rules based off one incident. Kawhi landing on Zaza is nowhere near enough evidence that change was needed. Just like how you wouldn’t say “Oh my god, we shouldn’t use stanchions anymore. We must find an alternative to stanchions no matter how much worse the alternative is” when Paul George snapped his leg on a stanchion.

I still do not understand how you can just go up for a dunk and either shove the defender down or push them away from you while you're going up so they can't block... I guess as long as you have the ball, you're just a running back in the nba because you can just run people over, or stiff arm them and not get called. 0:55 russ just shoves off gobert 3:07 ja just elbows him straight in the face (was definitely trying to push him off) 4:27 pushes off 7:08 Embiid just slaps Allens arms out of the way for a free dunk You can see the lebron dunks, wade, kobe, etc. going up and taking the contact but not pushing off.
