The nba should expand in Las Vegas and Montreal. Meanwhile during the offseason they should start a new league nba international which would allow for teams to form across Europe Africa Asia and the Middle East which can incorporate more international players more options for g league players and players from smaller schools or even d2 level players to join. They should also partner with the big 3 and start a nba streets league which would allow street level ballers from local cities to represent their towns in a cage court style league and offer a king of the court 21 style tournament

The farthest NBA will go with an expansion team will be into Mexico or Canada. They will have to consider flight time and wear and tear on players, meaning an expansion into an European city is not practical. It is ok to play exhibition matches as done by NFL but not have an expansion team in Europe. The NFL is able to host exhibition games in Europe because they play way fewer matches than the NBA with loads of rest time in between games.

Technically speaking if you're mentioning Europe thanks to European players becoming top stars, maybe the way would be opening European wing/conference? Let's have an example with this way team like Charlotte Hornets could come to Europe for 4-5 games and stay here 12-14 days. The same way later on teams from Europe could fly over to US. Options are there and it probably helps that best teams are all based in countries known as warm/hot: Spain, Greece, Turkiye, Italy, you can add to that Monaco which is great in recent years, Serbian teams are still close to Mediterranean Sea. The only 'outsiders' would be Lithuanian teams which are located much more North. The other option could be aquisition of whole Euroleague but that would need NBA to spend money instead of gaining money as usual. Another problem is that overall teams moving to NBA would need to leave their current leagues. So if NBA want to make it a successful move then they would need to bring biggest rivals from national leagues for example both Partizan and Crvena, as a well as Olympiacos and Panathinaikos etc.

I have lived in Oregon for 23+ years. But, I lived west of Seattle for 14 1/2 years beforehand. I have been Husky fan every year but the 1st grade. I am a lifelong Sonics fan. I haven't always been a Seahawks and Mariners fan, but now I am loyal to all the Seattle teams: the Huskies; the Seahawks; the Sonics; the Kraken; the Sounders; and the Mariners. I really hope the Sonics come back! Trash talk is my favorite part about sports. I now trash talk in all sports but the NBA. If the Sonics come back, I will trash talk about the NBA again!!!!

Giving Mexico City an NBA team over Montreal is so dumb😂😂😂 Mexico City isn’t some border city is deep in the heart of Mexico 1000’s of miles from the nearest NBA team… On top of a mountain in a higher elevation than Denver, and players are already complaining about Denver. Meanwhile Montreal only a few hours away from cities like Toronto, Boston, and Philadelphia. Yes they speak French in Montreal but there are way more Bilingual people in Montreal than in Mexico City.

Mexico has 331538 millionaires according to Credit Suisse Global Wealth Report. The only sovereigns below 0.1%, such as India & Indonesia, were well below half of the $13900 GDP per adult average. Lyon 2023 & Munich 2024 built new Euro League arenas, with around 12500 capacity, so the customer base is certainly not out of the question.

They won’t be able to go international. Players have already been outspoken about hating playing in Mexico City. If the NBA wants to set up international leagues and then make it like a meet up a couple times a year then sure, but at some point it gets too big.

I'd bet London wont get and NBA. Honestly kind of a joke to me it's even in the discussion. Your going to make NBA traveling for difficult and more importantly you'd be opening a franchise in a City with very little basketball culture. Doesn't matter how many people live in London. What matters is how many of them would actually support an NBA team. There is only like 12 players from the UK in the NCAA right now which has well over 300 teams. That ought to tell us something about the basketball culture in London. So unless a group of investors with deep pockets are willing to lose massive tons of money upfront in the hopes of cultivating a basketball culture over there it's not going to happen. Also I believe the NBA was way more poplar globally in the 90s then it is today. Much of the global popularity the NBA enjoys today was built then and has plateaued sense then maybe even lost some popularity. Back in the 90s at height of Jordan's career there was serious discussion rather the NBA or basketball could surpass soccer as the worlds most popular sport. The U.S. has a number of Cities that already have a built in basketball culture and fan bases and the NBA should look at those before even thinking about going oversees.

Most underestimated small market IMO is Louisville which has an NBA arena (Yum Center) which seats 22,000. Although I'm based in OKC, Louisville might be a potential best kept secret for future NBA expansion. The potential for sellouts is real; Kentucky's largest city could draw 20k - 22k on a nightly basis. Don't overlook Louisville.
