Easily half of all moves to the rim are travels. The NBA does nothing because posters sell, shoes sell, merch sells. Every bit of merch with an NBA logo on it is liscensed and they get a cut. Flashy drives make for stars, and stars sell merch. Unless you take 6 steps and flip off the ref on your way to the rim, pretty good chance you'll get away with it.

Yeah this is pushing the gather step too far. Here he has two hands on the ball prior to his left foot landing which then becomes his pivot. The gather step was made an official rule because they did not like that some plays were travels by rule due to the trail foot still being on the ground. I don't think players need any more additional freedom beyond the extra allowance that was already granted. This is a gather + three full steps. You can just see how wrong it looks in realtime.

Tatum's is right before he dribbles, he does a little shake n bake and clearly koves both feet before taking a dribble. No big effect on the play, though. Giannis takes a gather step - I wish they would call that traveling but they never do in the NBA.
