I actually really liked this! It’s nice to not just know about specifics of one injury or another but understand the thought process a doctor goes through to diagnose any injury of certain type. Look up GOATA movement and find a GOATA coach. GOATA is the only movement system on earth that truly understands the landing mechanism and has figured out how to keep your joint capsules and connective tissues safe for life. Do not listen to cadaver science. Millions of people get joint replacement surgeries every year because of the nonsense we have been taught about how to move

"By the end, you're gonna be able to school your friend and family about ACL tears" *What about the surgeon who misdiagnosed my ACL tear as just an MCL sprain, and refused to order an MRI when I suggested it was an ACL tear, and finally ordered it three months later and confirmed the ACL tear that I TOLD HIM THAT'S WHAT IT WAS?!?* His name was Dr. Walker, too. Always thought that was ironic.
@speric10
@speric10 3 жыл бұрын
Today marks 5 months after my ACL and meniscus repair. When I initially tore my ACL, like you it was also misdiagnosed, but as a meniscus sprain until I reaggravated it trying to play basketball again. It was only after I went to a second doctor when he suspected an ACL tear and ordered an MRI to confirm. Learned to always get a second opinion haha.

@@speric10 how painful was it when your first tore the acl? I mean could you not walk for a few days, or is it just mild pain?
@speric10
@speric10 3 жыл бұрын
@@HtheKing I have pretty high pain tolerance, so it actually didn't hurt that much (way less then I expect it should have). I thought I just sprained my knee at first, and actually thought about still playing that night until it swelled up to the size of a softball. So I walked out of the gym and drove home. It took about 2 weeks for the swelling to go down and I couldn't really bend my knee because of it. So yeah I couldn't really walk, but it didn't hurt much.

I know the viewership may not have met your hopes or expectations, but I wanted to say that I really appreciated this presentation style, as well as the work that went into this video, Dr. Sutterer. Like another user said, I enjoyed hearing not about a singular incident, but the common themes present across various examples of the same type of injury. I feel like this will also help with memorization of the structures and movements involved in such an injury (not that I'm an aspiring sports doctor -- just interested in anatomy!).

Its interesting because it appears that the trunk lean adds more vertical load into the knee and because we are at a mechanical disadvantage in that position in terms of our inability to utilize the adductors to decelerate the vertical load coming from the trunk lean...it then leads to too much frontal plane load to the ACL...then the ACL goes pop.
@alexanderdemelo466
@alexanderdemelo466 2 жыл бұрын
It literally all has to do with how the foot lands. This isn’t a random injury but a consistent pattern of movement misbehaviour that put constant stress on the acl over years and years until eventually the soft tissues can’t stand the over load of energy being dumped into them from poor foot control

Also important to note that there had to be a slight internal rotation of the foot for a lot of these to happen as most of these athletes probably don't walk around with knee valgus. Dinwiddie's foot looks like it got kicked into internal rotation right before he landed, very unfortunate.

I would like to hear more on proper landing mechanics. It was said alot that Derrick Rose was famous for not landing properly. All of those plays you showed are basketball moves. We know that there's a reason why the ACL tears but players plant and jump stop all the time, I hate to say that it's random or bad luck...but are there specific ways to lessen that load when the players suddenly stop on an outstretched, flat foot?

So I guess that means hypertension’s don’t usually cause ACL tears? What usually gets damaged from knee hypertension?
@bogdanandrei6270
@bogdanandrei6270 2 жыл бұрын
It depends of how extreme is the hypertension and the muscle power. Usually ACL, PCL are torn and also it can damage the knee capsule, tibial plateau and in some cases bone edema appears. I had patients with big hypertension during a footbal match and they didn't torn the ligaments but did damage the capsule and the tibia bone. So it's about luck in most of the cases.

A euro step puts your knees in a vulnerable position, he alludes to keeping your trunk centered over the knee your pushing off of (planting) to prevent the stress that typically causes ACL tears. @ Brian Sutterer, you explained how ACLs are torn in basketball athletes. However, can people who practice Martial Arts suffer the same types on injuries?I say this because I was working on my Taekwondo form movements, and I remember turning and stepping with my left leg forward, and keeping my right leg straight. I suddenly heard this popping sound in both knees.So I ask this because I recently injured both my knees over a week ago,and I can't bear weight on my left leg. My left knee is massively swollen and hypersensitive to touch, and my right knee is swollen some as well.But I did get my knees checked out at a local urgent care facility, though only X Rays were taken of my knees. I was told to ice/heat and take over the counter pain medication. So far nothing has helped either knee. I would gone to an ER, but many hospitals have outrageous wait times. I don't know of any other options or ways to get evaluated by a doctor to have either and MRI or CT Scan done. I am hoping that you are able to offer some advice on what I can do. And to also explain how Martial Artists can have the same injuries as any other athlete.Thank You
