I watched Bird's entire career he was my favorite player then and still is now. Lechump had the media hype behind him before he ever played a NBA game. Bird was not a ball hog and still has similar assist averages to Lebron. Lebron is great from 0-3 feet and crap from everywhere else. Bird was a hustler, great leader and made all his teammates better that cannot be said of Lebron. Bird was the best all around player to ever lace them up. The game is not worth watching now. Zero rules is not better for the game sorry. Palming, travelling, flopping does not make for great basketball

Agreed! Palming and Flopping are not helping the game out, especially flopping. Also LeBron is not the Shooter Bird was.

Prior to 1979 a defender could use their hand to impede the progress of the offensive player. Prior to 1995 you could not keep your hand on an offensive player for an "extended" time unless it was in the post. However, a hand that was contacting the offensive player for not an "extended" time was permitted. Prior to 2004 hand checking was illegal from the baseline to the opposite foul line.....also you could not defend a player in the low post with an extended hand (needed to use arm)....and could not use your leg to root out an offensive player posting up Prior to and Today.....any contact by a defender to an offensive player with their hand is considered a foul. With this caveat I give you the GOAT.....Wilt Chamberlain. Isn't close, this man was a legit 7 feet tall with the quickness and athleticism of any of the greats in NBA history times 10. The only player to be able to reliably block Kareem Abdul-Jabaar's skyhook at the apex of its trajectory. The only player that could rise up and dunk the ball with two players holding on either arm being physically lifted off the ground and brought up with him. And then there are his stats - he holds 72 nba records.....68 by himself.....and this was prior to the nba recording steals and blocks so his true number of nba records is likely much higher. So the game prior to 1979 was way more physical which is why (before expansion) the pace of play was so fast. There were high caliber players that needed to fight through defenders that could use their hands to impede your progress as an offensive player. It lead to more turnovers and a faster pace of play. In 1968, 1970 and 1976 as NBA expansion diluted the talent pool you saw a drop off in pace of play. After 1979 pace of play would be permanently slower. But the period from 1979 to 1995 is still a much more physical style of play then today. Not only did you have to be able to shoot the ball but you had to be strong enough to be able to get your shot off. Players today can be weaker because any contact is whistled for a foul. If today's NBA players had to play with rules from 1979-1995 era I guarantee half the players in the league would be replaced by athletic enforcers. And LeBron would not be able to survive with the approach he has today. But, in all fairness, he probably would have developed a tougher mentality or have quit basketball all together.
