@corey2232 a) It was clearly Gobert. b) The other player had a white wristband and Gobert did not. c) Run it in slo'mo at .25x using the video feature, and it is 100% Gobert hitting him with a left cross to the face. Gobert is a solid defender, and he ain't no Draymond Green, but those are dirty plays ... and so was handing the ball to Luka at the half.

Great question. The league changed the travel rule in 2019 to accomodate the "Harden step-back three" (invented by James Harden) and also to speed up the game with more action, more fast breaks, and more wind-up dunks. So, when he picks up his dribble it is called a "gather" step, and then he is allowed two more "additional" steps. Once he plants the foot on the second additional step it becomes his "pivot foot" and the planting of the second foot after that doesn't count as a step. He can then launch into his jump shot and must release the ball befoire the pivot foot hits the court again. You can run the video in slo-mo (use .25x in the gear icon settings) to see that it was perfectly legal under the new rules.

So, he gathers the ball on his left foot, takes the first additional step back on his right, takes the second additional step on his left and plants it as his pivot foot. When his right foot hits the court it becomes his non-pivot foot and is not a step. It's a thing of beauty. This is also used when you see players do the "step-through" in the lane off their non-pivot foot and thrwo the ball off the backboard, get the ball off the backboard and dunk it. Same concept.

#5 is one of the biggest flops I have ever seen. I was so shocked, and even Luka was as he was laughing about it later: he got away with it. #2 was a push and should have been a foul. I thought the Mavs played really well last night, but these two plays were incorrectly called (in addition to Kyrie's late-game foul that they couldn't call on the review).

@edwin3813 You are wrong. Gobert was assessed a "take-foul" penalty when he made no attempt at the ball and punched Luka with a closed fist. The play should have been reviewed and assessed a flagrant foul.
