Cooper deserve to be in the HOF! He was 1 of the greatest defenders there were! I can't believe they haven't done that yet!

Great points from Coop and Bob how Larry affected the game so much without the ball. On offense. Like no one else.

@@NBAHistoryCLNS this one makes me think. I will say Coop was a hell of a player. And the Lakers do not get those five titles in the '80s without him. No question. I know many are going to think I'm crazy when I say this, but he may have been the Third key Laker out of that whole squad. And yes I remember Worthy and Wilkes. While he didn't start too often, I think if three great 6th men of that era. Coop, Bobby Jones and Vinnie johnson. All three were better than starters on many teams. All three were good enough to start on at least half the teams in the league. But their teams utilized them in the right way to where they maximized what their teams needed the most.

The Lakers (Showtime Lakers) had an entire starting five that consisted of players who could score. (Sounds dumb - it’s basketball - if they can’t score why are they playing?) Kareem? D’uh (who’s the all time scoring king?) Magic? You know that if he wasn’t passing to the other guys he was shooting (and making it), Worthy - terrifying to watch because he could play inside so well and then pop out and shoot from a distance. Byron Scott - steady scorer. But Michael Cooper was perhaps the most dangerous player they had because not only was he a consistently great offensive player, he was the most fierce defender! Growing up in Boston I would cherish and rue those two regular season games we’d play against LA. Of course I wanted to see the C’s and the Lakers play at their best (which only happened when they played each other imho) but watching that LA offense was gut wrenching and watching Cooper shut plays down was so frustrating. I’m really happy to see all these guys reemerge on podcasts and share their stories.

What a great, fun interview! Should have been four hours long lol. Coop in the Hall, yes!!! I remember once, Pacers (Indiana fan) were playing Bird's Celtics in an exhibition game. Pacers put some rookie trying to make the team on Bird, just to see what would happen? Bird scored 14 POINTS IN TWO MINUTES without breaking a sweat. If they had kept on, he would have broken Wilt's record. But luckily, Pacers called time and took the kid out the game. They cut the poor guy the next day.

Coop might not make it to the HOF, but he damn sure deserve to have his number retired by the Lakers. The fact that the Lakers have retired Gasol's #16 but not yet Coop's #21 is beyond me.
