Not given his due, not even close. Great great man, needs to be spoken in the same breath as any great civil rights activist. That he was also arguably the greatest basketball player is incredible. An inspiration for all humanity. There will never be another Bill Russell.

I'm from Massachusetts, proud of it, and I think Bill Russell is the greatest basketball player to ever play the game. If you ask me, Russell exposed what is probably the most uncomfortable truth about Boston: it's a city that did a lot for America (being the hotbed of the Revolution) and for equal rights for all (it was a hotbed of abolitionist thinking and the place where the first colored regiment in the American Civil War) but at the same time, it has had a very shady and violent past when it comes to race relations and violence.

@@bill2953 Greatest championship team winner in the history of sports. By far! The Celtics had never won a championship in their history. They won 11 of 13 with Russell. Russell also won back to NCAA titles with USF and Olympic gold. All he did was win and he made everyone else's job easier. Russel retires and the Celtics crash and burn. That is greatness. Unparalleled greatness.

I'm ashamed of the interviewer in this. He made it sound like Bill was a bad guy guy back then. Bill was/is a hero for the USA. My favorite player of all time. I'm 66 years old and I've watched Bill since I was a young child. I never seen color only talent. DO NOT abuse on an older gentleman. Bill said himself he didn't hate white people only people that hated him. I'm white, Bill is the best that ever played.

73trident mcrider Enjoy his speech about maybe his best life long friend from Washington High San Francisco : kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp3cpKB7Z6eXjck Later on Paul Silas also from McClymonds High Oakland (Mac) was vital winning 2 rings in the 70"s. I haven't watched his Playboy After Dark appearance. It's available free on YT. He was a good guy. I'm not on board with the pro Jab B.S. I'm 70 w/o C. I grew up watching the C's and Dubs. His H.S. classmates Frank Robinson 1st black baseball manager & Curt Flood lead the fight for free agency. He lost money & career so players & media could be wealthy. Bill was part of a whole that included 2 track stars from San Jose State.

@edwin gonzalez Crap was left on his bed in Reading MA. Not saying you aren't correct. Ted Williams from San Diego was not liked. Russell's high school classmate, Frank Robinson was the first black baseball manager. McClymonds Oakland Another classmate was Vada Pinson. Also Curt Flood who fought for free agency. Here he is talking about his long time friend from Washington HIgh S F : kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp3cpKB7Z6eXjck K.C. Jones & a few others were C's from Bay Area. Tom Brady from near my hometown & Julian Edleman from my hometown and lots of other Boston stars from Bay Area. Lots of people in Boston look down on the Bay Area. Odd considering who they brag about.

Bill Russell is arguably GOAT, but don't need to underestimate Cousy, he was the best NBA star at the time Russell joined the Celtics. I mean, Russell is the goat, but Cousy was the GOAT in the middle 50's.

@Mr. No Weapon (The Prince Of The Talkbox) Cousy was the best player in the league in the middle 50's and the best guard until the early 60's.
