ROTY winners should only be about individual stats and nothing else. Save the "winning" and other advanced determining factors for MVP and DPOY instead.

Nah Kenny. What was shocking was that Julius Randle can actually shoot now. He averaged 21-8-3 on the Pelicans but went down to 19-10-3 when he went to the Knicks. Guys some of you never been close to play basketball.. Beeing a great defender doesn’t mean that superstars don’t gonna score on you, but you make their life harder and they loose most of their energy on try to score. Glad to see Chuck going to bat for Quickley. And he might not be the main reason the Knicks are in the playoffs but he definitely was a major contributor in several wins. The main thing keeping him back is time on the court. He just didn't have the minutes as those guys, never starting and often having to fight for minutes with other guard rotations. Pretty sure that per minute averages he'd be the top scoring rookie for the year. But it is what it is, and can't fault Ball for being the front runner and likely winner, Edwards did a good job working through some of the rust in the second half of the season and Haliburton definitely exceded expectations. Will hope to see Quickley make the first All Rookie team though.

Realised this a long time ago. They’re casuals. Nobody looks at them for analysis but that’s not what their show is. Imagine a 7’2’ guy with a 8 foot wingspan (or what ever it is) not being able to change the game offensively

Gobert had the most FG attempts against him in the league. Their FG% against him is the lowest. How is the Glove or anyone else any different in leading defensively?

I swear shaq has never watched a nba game. Rudy gobert changes offence. Dudes run away from rudy at the rim. I know teams are going to play different against the nuggets than he is against the jazz, becuase rudy is on the floor

Rudy gets toasted by top centers: Jokic, Embiid, Zion, AD. He’s long and athletic but he don’t have the respect of his peers which says everything about him. Simmons was a lockdown defender all season, and Draymond was Draymond. Rudy charmin in the playoffs

Rudy usually gets exposed by elite bigs. We watched Draymond force AD to struggle. AD and other elite bigs typically cook Rudy. And Rudy gets killed in the pick and roll game.

@@spjoo7 you are right. I do think simmons is a better overall defender. But in the gaurd/primary ballhandler dominated league right now, rudy's ability to deter drives to the rim changes offenses so much. I mean shaq is right that changing an offensive gameplan is so important to winning, but gobert changes offensive gameplans more than any other player in the leauge. But i am just sayng that on games ive watched, on games ive watched rudy has changed a teams offense more than ben simmons has. Even thoough ben is way more switchy

How does a teams low seed hurt a players chance at an award. I will never understand. Like the Warriors are absolutely buns and Steph is single handedly dragging them to the playoffs (if they make it). Like he’s playing insane, doesn’t that help him chances???? But Kobe ain’t win in 06 doing the same thing so I doubt steph will get it. But Jokic definitely deserves it as well and people better put respect on his name.

I think they look at it as how much the player helps their team win. Steph dragged the warriors close to the playoffs meanwhile Jokic dragged Denver to a higher level. I agree with u its kinda murky but this is how i see it.

It's just the "status quo" since the league started awarding MVPs. If they change that, then most of the past MVPs would become meaningless. If Curry really deserved the award, then he has to get better than an 8th seed next time. If they let Curry win, people would argue that there are "inconsistencies" in giving the award so that's a lot worse than simply eliminating players like him that have great stats/intangibles but didn't get the "winning" requirement. MVP is prestigious so they won't like people questioning the "legitimacy" of the award.

Rudy is the dpoty it’s pretty easy to see that. He alters everyone’s shot at the rim, and leads in blocks. Only other players that can play good defense is green, and Ben is overhyped when it comes to defense doesn’t really change anyone’s offense like the other two do.

Great show as always. I agree with Shaq, these awards are INDIVIDUAL not Team based. As a Hornets fan I really appreciated them showing LaMelo and praising my team a little bit. Hornets get no respect through out league in my opinion right now today. I blame Michael Jordan for that. Anyway, LaMelo is one of the few bright spots of the Hornets. I really hope he stays in Charlotte, and re-signs long term. However, I don't see it happening. Had Melo not broken his wrist, he'd win the award and Charlotte would have had more luck in the playoffs in my opinion.

Chuck focusing on winning here but low-key doesn’t realise that also hurt his career cause he didn’t win, and always gets upset whenever Shaq mentions his ring and say “well you played with you played that”. The thing is it’s the same should apply to the MVP and ROY, Steph should win it cause he was the best this season, his teammates didn’t help doesn’t mean Andy thing as it’s an individual award. Same goes with ROY award.

Wins are a TEAM statistic. Individual awards should be given based on how well the PLAYER played throughout the year. If the team happens to win in spite of them playing well, it should be the icing on the cake, not the most important factor.
