Whenever I hear the NBC Chimes and the theme song, I know that whenever it comes on, I know that something happened. Like it could be a bomb threat or a tragic death to someone.

00:55 If you hear this at 10 am est Sundays on your local NBC Station it's Meet The Press If you hear this 2pm on a Tuesday it means an NBC News Special Report John Williams "Pulse of Events" is a great musical piece

I can't believe that no one on NBC has had a moment of inspiration and used "the four chime" as part of these Special Reports intros for breaking news.

The fourth chime was used mainly on NBC Radio but I've heard a urban legend that it was played on NBC-TV the morning of September 11 2001 to stations in the west to alert them to switch to the East Coast network feed of "Today", just after the first tower of the World Trade Center was hit. Can anyone verify this?
@Commanderraf3 жыл бұрын
@@altfactor I've never seen or heard about that, but it would be quite interesting if it was true. I hope someone can shed more light on this information.

This music is traumatic. Horrible Memories

There should be the "double tonic" chime in a new Special Report intro.
@rockysocky2 жыл бұрын
I hope when America’s Mozart passes (and we all know who this is), that NBC breaks in at any time with this intro.

1:11 Man don’t you just love it when they make a special news report on Sept 11, 2001 :troll:
1985-1988 was the origins of the Special Report's theme we all knew as till this day

Interesting that, during the countdown of the current open, the 1985-2004 version of the Nightly News headline bed is played.

Sort of. They were playing this for a lot of the transitions throughout the day, other than the scheduled nightly news broadcast itself. Keep in mind the first tower was struck at about 8:46am and morning programming across most networks, including the today show on NBC, were in commercial break and simply came back to live feeds of the towers, just in time to see the south tower get hit live. Then, they started playing the special report theme sporadically throughout the day.

Back in those days a "special news report" meant it was probably a documentary or some sort of special presentation, not the breaking news coverage that it means today.

When the nbc chimes and either Lester Holt or Savannah Guthrie came on my dad would say “ What racist thing did Trump do again?”
@altfactor2 жыл бұрын
The first clip was actually from a special program covering a news event in 1961 (maybe a Project Mercury space shot?) and not a brief bulletin that interrupted a program for a minute or two. Some of the later introductions were also special programs and not brief bulletins.
