In all the reenactments I've ever seen, they never really show Wilks Booth breaking his leg. There was a game show from the 50's where they had a 90 something year old man who saw it happen when he was five and he said in an article that he wrote, that when Wilks Booth jumped down, he was obviously hurt and he wondered why no one was helping him. He didn't realize what happened. All the reenactors play off the broken leg like it was no big deal, but it actually was. They should have been able to catch him sooner.

It actually is a myth that Wilkes Booth broke his leg at Ford's Theater. It's been proven that Samuel J. Seymour (March 28th, 1860-April 12th, 1956) on "I've Got a Secret" misremembered it. Think about it: he was only 5 years old at the time. The myth started from a magazine/newspaper article in which Mr. Seymour most likely appropriated the memory. In reality, Wilkes Booth broke his leg during the manhunt, most likely when his horse fell on him.

My history teacher taught me that seconds after shooting lincoln, Booth tussled with Lincoln's guard and ended up stabbing him I think over a dozen times. This assassination was also part of a coordinated conspiracy. Two other important political figures were almost assassinated that same night. I believe both survived. I also forget most of the details, but booth had timed it just right so that there was no guard on duty to guard the staircase that led to Lincoln's booth. I wish I had written this down because its really fascinating.

Why? Abraham Lincoln was a tyrant and despot. He invaded a sovereign nation, he suspended the writ of habeas corpus, shut down opposition newpapers, arrested many Marylanders as political prisoners, including the Mayor of Baltimore, and authorized the unlawful military searches of homes among other violations of inalienable civil rights. He even tolerated if not praised the looting, pillaging and burning of the South, especially my home state of Georgia. Lincoln sucked.
