I know this is very obvious, but being black myself, it's super refreshing to have a black man who is a respected leader, loving to his kids, smart, tough but also gentle. Terry is an incredible character. Holt too btw!

I am not black but even for someone who is not, it is indeed refreshing. What I like about this show (and also similar shows like The Office, Parks and Recreation etc) is that they don't make the minority character all about their race. They also don't ignore it completely and there are a couple of episodes where they address the racism as well. My second most favorite episode in B99 is the episode where Terry gets stopped and frisked for no reason and he and Holt decide how to deal with it. It was funny and also thought provoking at the same time. B99 goes a step beyond those other shows I mentioned and instead of simply addressing the race, they actually made an entire episode about racism.

@@hittingyouoverthehead Agreed, they also made an episode addressing another super important topic that is still unfortunately present all over the world: Sexism and just like the episode "Moo Moo" they did it amazingly well (Funny and thought provoking at the same time) (It was Season 6 episode 8: "He Said, She Said" I highly recommend watching it in case you haven't). When they cover an episode on homophobia (It's only a matter of time because of Holt, Rosa, Kevin, Jocelyn, Gina and Jake (It's only been implied that the last two are in the LGBT+ Spectrum though and I am aware that Gina did leave at the end of Season 5) I will not be surprised if it's addressed in the same style as "Moo Moo" and "He Said, She Said" (Funny and thought provoking at the same time).

Probably the best representations of the LGBTQ community, the issues of the penal system, racial discrimination, sexual harassment in the workplace and the shitty repercussions, and a solid representation of the fears of being a police officer whose fellow officer is on the scene during an active shooting incident. They cover tough shit and they cover it well.
