The navajo sold a lot of coal and they didn't get to use any of the power produced from it. They have a river going through the northern reservation and they have no rights to it. So many navajos have no running water or electricity.

My mother used to donate money for wood stoves for Navajo because many do not have an safe way of heating homes, think it is called southwest Indian foundation. Sad that government does not take care of indigenous people in this country as well as they take care of other countries who are getting billions .

I live next to a Rez in New Mexico. Their #1 issue is definitely infrastructure. #2 unequal federal assistance distribution from the tribe council. I would like to know what immigrants is the lady speaking about. If she doesn’t know, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, California, Nevada, Utah, parts of Oklahoma, Kansas and Wyoming were part of Mexico before the white folk stole it from Mexico. I think she is being misinformed. Furthermore, it is very hard for immigrants, of any country, to get a job, so it would be very difficult for them to “buy back” land, especially Native American land. In fact, they are getting land back, so how is it that she claims that “immigrants are buying back land”? Please, lady, don’t fall for Trump’s lies.

Native American people are the original Americans to US land. That is a fact. Injustices done to Native Americans have been innumerable. Federal government has tried to make up for it by creating independent Native American land reservations and perhaps by other means too. To my knowledge, NA want their "independence from ANY government interference" in order to be autonomous. That is their right; however IF that be the case, then they should NOT ask for federal assistance... perhaps state assistance. Poverty is all too common for this race of people in America. They do need help and are more entitled to aid than ANY undocumented ILLEGALS entering the US. They ARE the ORIGINAL AMERICANS and should be treated accordingly and if there are any veterans, then all the more reason to provide proper benefits for their service to their country.

So NBC went to Navajo country to speak to 5 tribal members. 4 of various political views pointed out a need for infrastructure improvements on the reservation to benefit the tribal community. An actual critique of government policy based around real policy action. The 5th tribesmen, a Trump supporter, had a really dumb take on school yard gun violence. Because we’re about to be real….most YT people would say native kids are not “raised right” and they’ve always believed that about native people based on their actions since the beginning of European colonization of the Americas 🙄. So it’s amazing to me that some of us in minority communities really internalize bigotries about ourselves and repeat them aloud without the slightest hint of irony. Needless to say though, the Trump supporter is always really good at identifying a problem…..they have little to no understanding of, and often wants a solution that is dangerous, illegal, or unconstitutional, because the information they have on a topic is outdated, wrong, or deliberately falsified , regardless of their background 🤷‍♂️. But here’s the real important point…..they are perfectly ok with it. It is a choice to be deliberately ignorant.

I really liked how the candidates made an effort to speak on the significant issues facing THE poorest, most downtrodden people in America during the recent debate. There's places on our nations reservations where people still don't have running water, think about that, in 2024, incredible.
