Her description of crypto currency can be applied just as easily to all fiat currency like the Dollar or the Euro. Holding that currency is based of faith or belief in the government that backs it up. Faith in any government these days is pretty foolish.

The US dollar (the "most trusted" and the global reserve currency) was taken off the gold standard in 1971. And no, there are zero rules "for what a country can do with money." Not any real rules. Yes there is the unwritten rule that if they print it endlessly it's value will depreciate. But do you see that stopping them? BTC *does* have rules. They encoded in the protocol, limiting its supply to 21 million. And the incentive structure embedded in its decentralized nature mean it's nearly impossible to change this. It's against all stakeholders' interest. (Not true for a centralized entity like the US gov with the dollar) That is why decentralization is valuable. As always, dig deeper and do your own research. I know many people mistakenly believe currencies today are still backed by gold. If you ask someone on the street they'd probably say that. It's unfortunately not true anymore. The fact is, they're all traded against each other based on nothing but investor confidence in the promises of governments (and what is being purchased with that currency in a geopolitical macro sense: eg oil, rare earth elements, etc.). Military power and economic performance also affects this. Also monetary policy. In the end trading based on this is exactly what FX traders do. Everything is a confidence game based on promises. And when the promises come from governments, they can and always will be broken or eroded. Every reserve currency in the past has fallen. 100% of them. Even the US dollar has depreciated 90+% over the past 100 years. Bitcoin relies on no promises and requires you to trust no one. No single entity can devalue it by printing more for their own benefit. Why would a majority of BTC node operators, miners, holders, advocate a change to the code that devalued bitcoin by increasing the supply? Yeah. Elizabeth Warren: "Bitcoin is nothing but a confidence game based on promises" All of us: "Bitcoin requires no promises. I can't change it. The US dollar relies on promises. It's backed by nothing BUT promises. It's been devalued relentlessly since its inception. Those promises were broken. Its supply has been inflated to bail out reckless banks that take advantage of ordinary citizens, making us all poorer in the process." Warren: "But I hate the banks and stand up for the little guy. OMG....it's comments such as yours that keeps me shorting BTC via BITO puts. Here's the crime....the cypto promoters keep preaching that crypto technology can be compared to internet technology at its onset, which is 100% wrong. The two technologies are completely different. Crypto technology has its place.....a limited place, with limited applications while the internet has unlimited applications and unlimited uses. Also, the current batch of crypto's have no inherent value- as the senator points out. Their one possible application- as a medium of exchange, will be almost entirely diminished once the FED issues a US-backed digital dollar. This is just one of a dozen misunderstandings that crypto traders have, thanks to the hundreds of crypto promoters. There is a very tragic day ahead for 95% of the crypto traders.

There are many crypto traders who believe as you do.... they have a strong distrust in government = a strong attraction towards anything NOT associated with government. The crypto promoters capitalize on this antigovernmental sentiment often. Here's what academics know that crypto holders don't understand.... when it comes to having a viable, trustworthy medium of exchange, history has proven countless times that a currency MUST have the backing of a strong entity such as a government. This is the attribute that keeps a currency stable and valuable. There have been many, many currencies that have failed throughout history as their "backing entity" has faltered. Many crypto holders are convinced the US government will fail = failure of the US dollar. None of those traders have a solid education in history, economics and monetary policy. If they did, they would realize that the US government and economy is the most stable and successful in history for very good reasons- far too many to list here. So, lack of education = fertile ground for snake oil salesmen. One more note: one main reason the US has become the strongest economy in history is because of sound FED monetary policy. If you study history and economics you discover that these policies are responsible for the absence of depressions (common, pre-WW2) and sustained economic growth for decades. The uneducated simply do not realize how successful the US economy has been and why. The FED requires good control over money flow- that is necessary to manage monetary policy. If crypto becomes too big, it represents a real threat to sound monetary policy and therefore a threat to the economy. Decentralization can be very advantageous, but not when it comes to currencies- with currencies centralization = stabilization = good monetary systems management. This why the FED has no choice but to issue its own digital currency and regulate non-fiat cryptos....if they don't, the US financial system and economy are seriously threatened. It is just a matter of time B4 the regulations come down hard, and crypto is pushed into a small corner where it does not represent a threat to the economy. I just hope you are not significantly exposed to crypto when that day comes.

@@ang5035 Where do I begin! This would be a great dinner or beer drinking conversation but way too long to respond in a KZbin thread. Very few things have universal value to everyone, my buddy sells baseball cards and has showed my cards that are worth over $1M to me that’s crazy since I just see a piece of cardboard but to those in that industry it’s worth a $1M. Crypto doesn’t need EVERYONE to believe in it or use it to have value, and many cryptos actually have value because they produce a digital service. Paper money has value because someone told us it does, Bitcoin has value because millions of people believe it does. I’ll never pay a million dollars for a baseball card, someone that’s doesn’t appreciate the money characteristics of crypto probably shouldn’t buy it either.

That said, I prefer to invest in something concrete and not invest in hot air. A lot of investment in "hot air" has led some people to jumping off from 20 storey buildings. Exactly! How did we start to value the dollar? It’s just a piece of paper. I understand peoples concerns because crypto is a new concept, but for people to just completely disregard crypto currency or Bitcoin is kind of funny. Dollar is a currency/receipt, it’s not money. Money is something that holds its value over time. Look at copper Pennies, they cost more than the value of the penny itself since it is made out of copper. The currency is the penny and the copper is the actual money.

This could actually be a good time to buy more of your high conviction stocks or crypto on a discount. Wealth is created during bear markets, not bull markets. I agree that USDC / Tether should have audits and not just attestations - but lack of regulation has created competition - regulation isn't always needed. Without regulation, the market has created alternatives that solve for the trust problem - look at DAI and UST - the overcollateralization of DAI is visible on chain and Maker is a backstop. Re: CBDCs good luck getting countries to keep the dollar as the reserve currency if your money can just be deleted by the Fed no matter where you hold it. Especially as the US continues to grow the coalition of the sanctioned. Imagine thinking crime is a good use case for a PUBLIC ledger. It makes< sense, BTC and crypto is off helping to regulate, rather that pretend it won't ever happen. The big institutions getting in is the catalyst that will launch us into the stratosphere. Most people don't like change but after the change is made they grow used to it and it becomes a non issue usually because their fears never materialize. And benefits they were unaware with before turn out to be far more beneficial. Few if any rug pulls. The projects that initiated the process of regulation have not been ruined, they got involved in setting guidelines and helping the regulators understand the crypto space. I’d get involved more knowing that I have made over 16` btc from day-trade with Tracy Goodman Crypto in few weeks
