Some context is necessary to fully understand at least these two points extracted from the interview. First of all, Israel's wars are not NATO wars. So, Mr. Erdogan doesn't have to be on the side of the US on that, and he obviously doesn't have to care about some people in Israel being offended because of his consideration on certain Israeli politicians like Netanyahu. There are also many people in Israel approaching to their government as he does. NATO on the other hand was founded to fight - if necessary - against the Soviets and protect the free world from Communism. Now the US (under Obama and Biden administration, not Trump) and some other NATO countries are supporting Marxist-Leninist guerillas like YPG/PYD in Syria and Iraq (which by the way doesn't mean supporting Kurds, but some Marxists among the Kurdish population that is mostly not Marxist at all). Now if some countries in the NATO approach the YPG/PYD as "allies", why should they expect Turkey - engaged in fighting against Marxist guerrillas - to view Hamas as a terrorist organisation? Coming to Ukraine, Turkey is actively supporting that country by providing to the Ukrainian armed forces weapons and drones such as the famous Bayraktar, made in Turkey. Meanwhile Turkey is also trying to negotiate between Russia and Ukraine to reach some peace agreement, while also stating that Turkey would refuse any loss of Ukranian territory - including Crimea - to Russia. In this sense, he is not refusing a NATO membership of Ukraine, but he is trying to be diplomatic enough and say that this is not the moment to discuss this issue, and he is above all stating something that should make some people really think: that the US (and not Turkey) does not want Ukraine in the NATO.
