Do you have computers that can help patients to the toilet before they soil themselves waiting for help and get needed pain medication on time so people don't suffer prolonged pain ?????? These are current issues happening now in hospitals, Rehabs and Nursing Homes causing great distress among patients and indicates serious neglect.

I think that is a legitimate fear to have. It is a scary thought when a new technology is introduced and its function is to do parts of someone's job arguably better. It is unfortunate, but not uncommon, that groups of people may act to change the business model or care-plan as a reaction to the new technology and its performance. However, some of the limits I have read about regarding artificial intelligence technology are that there functions are limited to their datasets and that the recommendations they make do not always give a reason as to why it is being given. I think Dr. Rashidi summarizes those limitations based on the description of machine learning, or the ability for technology to do a function based on the data it receives. With the function of this specific technology seeming to be more focused on improving patient interactions by assessing physical responses that are abnormal to a person, the recommendations the machine makes may be more so focused on occupational recommendations and improving communication to providers to see someone sooner rather than later. Preventatively, consulting people who are suspicious of an emergent event as soon as possible has been proven to lower patient costs and hospital stays, but those consultations still require people with hands-on skills and adaptive thinking to take all the information that is in front of them in order to provide quality care. I would say that these technologies are simply acting as way to simplify that communication and will always need quality staff to deliver care, but now those staff may be required to learn how to coordinate care with these machines as point-of-care tools.

This is a very interesting development for both patients and doctors. I think this brings up an interesting debate about privacy of the patient. Most of us would agree that every human is entitled to some form of privacy while in the medical setting, but this technology might encroach on that right but for the betterment of the patient. I think I would personally accept that tradeoff, if this AI can truly pick up on manifestations of medical conditions before physicians and nurses could notice them, I would want this in a hospital I was at. I think this does lean into the debate of sacrificing some of our person liberties for health. This is sacrificing your own person liberty of privacy to ensure your health is okay and people do something similar every day with feeding data into let’s say an apple watch to be analyzed, or a continues glucose monitoring device for people with diabetes. Where this debate gets a little cloudier is are people willing to sacrifice their own right to privacy for the good of their community. We saw this in COVID-19 when people were encouraged to get the vaccine even though if there were to contract COVID there symptoms might be mild but getting the vaccine protected those who were more vulnerable like the elderly and immunocompromised . 1 I think this second debate between sacrificing person liberties for the health of a community is a hard idea to get behind especially in the United States where our culture values person freedom so much. Setting that debate aside though I think this new technology has the chance to benefit patients and allow doctors to better care for patients. This might also improve justice in the healthcare system by mitigating physician bias both conscious and unconscious because this AI won’t have those biases. I also have concerns about how this might affect specifically the American medical system. If this does take some burden off physicians and nurses would the hospital systems, then be inclined to hire less health care providers. I fear with the way our medical system is set up this might be something that happens, and I believe even with this technology this would be to the detriment of the patient if this were to infact happen. I think this is a tool for physicians and nurses to use and not a replacement for the daily interactions that patients have with the staff at a hospital.

This is what they are trying to do with Education too. It is quite disturbing. Kids won't want to sit in front of a computer to learn. Students barely want to be taught by a human. Maybe is school wasn’t set up like a prison system, students would actually want to learn. This is coming from an adult who’s no longer in college. Just my opinion but how are you supposed to focus on learning when you have to analyze and be wary of the students around you who would take you out when you’re alone somewhere? The school won’t protect you from assault by other students and they certainly won’t do anything if the other students verbally, mentally, and physically harass you day in and day out. You are forced to attend or your parents could be taken from you and sent to jail. You are forced to stay against your will… and there’s no justice or policing of students who act out against you. If the things that happened to me in middle and highschool happened in the workplace or in college, I would be handing lawsuits out like it was christmas. If we fix the system maybe students will actually be able to focus on learning and their studies. Just a thought and it’s my opinion.

Ok I feel technology is making the world lazy. When we come to a point to have computers doing everything for us what jobs will we have? Will the only ones who have jobs be the owners and manufacturers of this technology? Wal-Mart has replaced the check out jobs to the customers with the self check out. Fast food places are now pushing kiosks on people. I predict as technology gets advanced there will be less and less jobs for people Technology is already replacing us.

This was already predicted. I saw a documentary years ago, stated that A I technology will replace about 40 percent of jobs.

It’s sad we are heading that way but at the same time it can be exciting that we have more time. As long as our Government plans accordingly (which is doubtful) and implements a Universal Basic Income (UBI). People can still have an income while working less (or eventually not work at all). I hope it doesn’t get to the point of not working at all because I feel like people would go insane with boredom. I hope peoples work hours are cut back drastically to create more part time jobs and the rest of their income comes from a UBI.

Ever heard about the 18th - 19th century textile workers who destroyed machinery because they believed it threatened their jobs? History is not very kind to them

@@cameronsene4717 I see the government taking advantage of this UBI that you are referring to. If such a thing exists, the Government will have control over your finances, rather than you being able to switch jobs if needed. The government cannot have that much control. They already have control over the spending in public schools, and we don't have toilet paper in our bathrooms!!
