Being a super horse doesn't guarantee winning the Triple Crown. I doubt very much this horse is as good as either Native Dancer or Spectacular Bid, the two greatest horses to win 2/3 of the Triple Crown but who lost one of the three. (The Derby for ND, his only loss, and the Belmont for Bid.) Both have been ranked in the 10 greatest U.S. Thoroughbreds of the 20th century. Look at Spectacular Bid's Florida Derby win, where he won going away after one of the world's most terrible rides. THAT was a super horse. Forte is obviously a very good horse. Off his current record, he deserves to be the Derby favorite. I doubt he is a super horse.

Mage broke poorly, was quickly last, took a ton of dirt in the face, was forced to go 5 wide around the 1st turn, then circled the field five wide throughout. It was his 3rd lifetime start, and his trip will most likely having him getting a lower fig than Forte. Forte is the champ, but Mage ran at least as good a race as Forte, probably better, and will improve more.

Now the last couple days...I saw info that Practical Move ran the fastest 1 1/16th mile prep AND the fastest 1 1/8 mile prep of all of derby horses, and it was by a wide margin. So I've added him to my "list". Problem is, my list is getting longer, not shorter like I want it to be! Good luck!

Mage ran a monster race. The type of turn move and flattening in the stretch but still running the final eighth in 12 and one fifth proves he is a very serious racehorse. If he figures out the start, He is going to be a major force this year.

I can show you in this way, that was a very strong closing kick because I thought for sure Mage had him. He still came on and would not be denied. Straight up Beast. Angel of Empire might be the one of the number of stand outs to give him a go. Time will tell.

@Christopher Elmore Individuals don't realize is that 20 horses in a field is far different than 8 to 10 horses. You draw that outside post that's traveling. You draw the inside post. You could get pinched at the rail and get sent way back slowing the horse down to maybe never being able to recover. 20 horse field is no joke.

Impressive. Forte was heavily lathered by the time he entered the gate, thus the coat of dirt he wore at the end. And none of the commentators mentioned how Forte was trying to turn his head around 180 degrees while in the gate; the assistant starter must have arms like Popeye. Powerful move in the last 100 yards.

No, I think he was just fine because at the end he pricked his ears up and that is usually a good sign. He will be just fine in the KD. You know that this Derby will be very tactical indeed and it will be very good for Forte and about five others.

This horse gives me goosebumps. Those final jumps were impressive. But, I’m betting against him in the Derby and going with Angel of Empire. Forte can’t run like this against him if AOE fires. Wouldn’t be surprised if a few of them beat me, but AOE is peaking at the right time as is Tapit Thrice. Very competitive field this year.

Forte was absolutely asleep for more than half this race. If he can stay awake he will win the Kentucky Derby otherwise hes gunna run out of track. Hes gunna be chasing Derma down. It'll be a good race.

He struggles early in his races because he isn't a front running horse, he's a mid pack type horse so he never needs to go for the lead unless it's a seriously slow pace
