Mac Jones having elite coaching since he was 11 explains everything. He had the tools to excel into college. But he doesn’t have the internal make up to lead and excel professionally. You see this in all sports. Tennis players, Potential Olympic athletes etc. This is how youth sports work. The ones who look elite, or have an inside track through family or local coaches, are singled out and get the best. Only a few of these end up rising to the top. Mac was given the externals, but does not have the internals to be one of those. Finally, if what this guy says is true, then he should be coaching offensive lineman, not quarterbacks!

The problem with many of todays NFL "Fans" and I use that term loosely is that they think picking Williams or another top picks solves the Patriots issues and it doesn't. You need talent at many other positions to allow a young QB to run the team. Bill and the Krafts did a disservice to the team with their tight wallet. Even now Kraft better be writing checks or the NE Patriots are going nowhere.

I've never seen a single person say pick a QB and all your problems are solved. I have, however, heard people say if you don't have the QB then it doesn't matter what other problems you solve because you need a QB to compete so solve the biggest problem first, and you'll find out the other problems are not as big of a deal all of a sudden when you have a QB that can elevate the people around him.

I have no idea if Mac could ever be a good or even back up QB in the NFL. What I do know is NE QB issues are on Kraft and Bill. Back when Tom said he wanted to play until he was 45, why did they not lock him up. Instead Tom leaves and they had actually no QB in the waiting, none. At the 11th hour they bring in Cam. Shocker that does not go well. Then they draft Mac and things go well, but to be honest I still did not have a great feeling. Why did they not bring in a seasoned veteran, be it Cam or someone else. You see how Packers do it. Rogers and Love both sat and learned. Teams now want to see what they have right away. Some QBs can do that but many can’t and they never learn the craft of being a big time NFL QB. I think Bill never showed the respect the position deserves because Tom made it look easy. Tom also could make pretty much any of Bills castaway players he found work. No big time receivers needed. Hell Bill lets Mac favorite target walks and he brings on a receiver who is injury prone for the same money Myers wanted. This issue started back when Brady was here. Going on the cheap, year after year with absolutely no plan for the future. Then they act like they can turn this team into a playoff team with little or no talent on the offensive side of the ball. Bill did great things but Bill also did some completely F up stuff. This team is in a seriously bad spot and it’s not turning around any time soon. There is a reason Bill still does not have a job, he has been a terrible GM for many years and no team wants to give that much power. Great coach and for the last ten years very poor on the offensive side of the ball. It’s hard to win when you can’t score even when your team holds the other team to 10 or less points. Defense is important but so is offense. Bill does not seem to care about the side of the ball. That was perfectly clear when he turned the offense over to two coaches who had never coached offense. I would have fired Bill then.

Let's say NE is below average right now in terms of offensive structure and coaching....I think mac would need an above average offensive team to be successful in. Sam Darnold’s tape didn’t lie, we were clowning him when he was bad at Jets & seeing ghosts, he then went to other teams and was the same guy. Pressure busts pipes or creates diamonds. Anyone pointing at Mac’s college years, here’s a newsflash no QB in the NFL will ever have the all-star offensive weapons and protection Mac had in college. So if that is what’s required for him to be the best Mac, we can ship him out because Mac playing his best in the NFL is a pipe dream. I'm way late to this party but sometimes QBs don't fail on talent alone. Ask David Carr. Sometimes the QB is ruined…That nails it describing Mac Jones experience as a Patriot. As a native Pats fan, I was disgusted by the mismanagement. At the very least, his opportunity to succeed was ruined by mishandling. At worst he was very possibly a victim of intentional sabotage by a vindictive HC. IMO, Belichick is a hypocrite. Belichick expects EVERYONE ELSE to be accountable and team driven so, WHY ISN'T HE??!! I put the blame squarely on COACHING for the decline of Mac. Let's not forget Mac's success. Season 1: Made Playoffs @ 10-7 and pro-bowl alternate: That doesn't happen by accident in the NFL! Mac wasn’t flawless but deficiencies were completely coachable. Season 2: He loses a great OC, replaced by a couple meathead yes men with NO Offensive credibility!... Couple that with head scratching, uncomplimentary, offensive schemes/gameplans. Add the HC undermining Mac's confidence by benching him after ONE interception in a game! W*F!! How many other HCs would bench the starter after ONE interception early in a game??!! Answer: NONE!! Season 3: Under "sink or swim" duress with another questionable meathead OC, more inexplicable schemes/gameplans, and no support from an uncommunicative dis-engaged HC!! Recipe for failure ONLY! Was Mac Jones at all responsible for his decline? The answer is: MINIMALLY! Yes, he is high strung and impatient. Yes, he lost the team by calling out teammates for perceived failures. Yes, he was guilty of being a young immature player who made some poor decisions. None of those things were good, but he was understandably frustrated in dealing with an UNTENABLE situation!! I wish the best of success to Mac and my personal apology. I am embarrassed by what my team did to him. He should have had a 4th Pats year with a legit chance to thrive… It's abundantly clear that Belichick is a brilliant Narcissist. He's the best defensive mind the game has ever seen, but he has NO respect for offense and offensive players, and NO respect for the Owner that employs him. He has repeatedly undermined what was best for the team while claiming otherwise. Sitting Malcolm Butler in SB 52 threw ALL Players under the Bus! How was that best for the TEAM?! Players are human and all different. It's a HC duty to manage personalities and CREATE an atmosphere of SUCCESS for overall TEAM benefit! Ruining the starting QB consciously or unconsciously because he isn't "your guy" is Textbook NARCISSISM and absolutely NOT what is “BEST” for the TEAM! Belichick does what is best for his EGO! He may have cut his football teeth under Navy Athletics, and he may THINK he runs a team modeled on the military, but he does NOT! He FORGOT that EVERY serviceman swears an oath and is accountable to a higher authority! The Admiral or General, may not agree with or even respect The President, but it's their duty to their country to follow orders and to NEVER undermine or subvert “The Boss” or the MEN under their command. Belichick should never again be trusted with a HC position. He's borderline megalomaniacal, and a cancer in any position of authority. I would hire him as a DC with very minimal authority only. IMO, players were willing to endure the "Belichick Way" because they believed TB12 ensured a legitimate SB shot year after year. Yes, the defenses were equally important to the repeated success, but The GOAT was the GLUE that held it all together. When the glue dissolved, it unsurprisingly fell apart.

Then we have the opposite end which is the BB fan boy club. Most of us acknowledge the great things Bill did but we can also see where he messed up. Bill the GM got Bill the coach fired. New England is going to have a hard time bringing in an offensive head coach because the talent is so poor. No one wants to try to coach this train wreck of talent. Many have already said no and no team is hiring Bill for a reason. Sports is a younger man’s game. Just how it is. Bill needs relax and enjoy life, he goes straight to the Hall of Fame and someday his last few years in NE will be forgotten.

I don’t know if Mac will ever be a serviceable QB in the NFL. His last year in college was pretty impressive and a lot of those players he played with and against are in the NFL. His first season looked pretty descent. Then he had Matt P calling offensive plays and that’s when it went off the rails. Mac reminds me of Alex Smith a lot. You aren’t going to be successful with 3 OCs in three seasons. I think Alex smith had 6 OCs in 6 seasons. He just needs the right coach and some consistency and we can at least see whether he is a starter in the NFL. I suspect he is a mid tier starter or high tier backup.
