This time I look at the complete combined form of the NBK knock-off of the Generation Toy Gravity Builder, which in and of itself is a third party representation of the Transformers Decepticon character of Devastator. I take a few minutes to show the entire group in both robot and vehicle modes before putting them together as one. As a set, they make excellent Constructicons. Together, as Devastator, they look terrific and have many strengths but also a couple of weaknesses in terms of hinges and styling. In this combined form, I take a few minutes to make comparisons with the Power of the Primes Abominus and the Combiner Wars titan class iteration of the same character. Really? Admittedly, the hip joints probably should have been soft ratchets for added stability and one hip skirt could do with a slight balljoint thickening with, say, floorwax, but otherwise, he is pretty solid. Maybe a case of the KO varies but in my experience, for the cost, I can easily see why someone would consider it a good option.

Hi Dennis, I love how your reviews are so honest and real - they all sound like how my friends and I discuss our respective collection pieces. I'm not sure if yours is the same (and if someone else pointed this out), but my NBK Devy has an additional gray locking piece that swings down and connects Hook's lower left side with Long Haul's front left side. Also, the knees click and lock in when pushed all the way. Lastly, the chest piece on mine has 4 connection points and is very secure. Nonetheless, please keep it up - I am not alone in saying that I look forward to your insights for wisdom before making purchases 😊

This was on loan to me. I did not know about the Hook locking point. I did know about the knees. I just hadn't pushed them all the way. For the price, this is a solid set.

Yes sir, I do. A, I don't personally see the point if multiples and B, I simply don't have the space. That said, everyone collects differently. My 8 titans take up significant real estate and I have a version of every con combiner a d as many of the autobot ones as I can, may the wildly expensive Raiden.

About you seeing hook sitting a little off kilter. He is, but it's caused by scrapper. He's ever so slightly shorter than mix master. I don't think it's a flaw, but more of just how you have them sitting in the video. I may be wrong, but to my eye "granted I'm blind lmao" it looks like the way you have the legs positioned in the video, has mix master a mm or 3 taller than scrapper.

Just got this guy and was wondering if there was place to put scrapers gun in vehicle or leg mode. I also noticed you didn't raise the bumper of mix master in leg mode. It fits into that that groove just below the windshield. However, depending on how it is posed you might want it down

I agree, decent looking all around, I like yourself would prefer the bucket arm on "Scavenger" to be green. Although the purple doesn't necessarily look bad. Fantastic video Dennis and I really appreciated all of the comparisons. For me, the Combiner Wars seems to hold up pretty good alongside the (NBK) imo. But I think both look decent and however anyone goes, seems you can't really lose either way. Well done man!

If course, all this said, were we talking MP it would have to be between he Jinbao OS of this set with no apparent short cuts and proper colors and, of course, the likely winner, Constructor. In this case, but CW and NBK have merit for CHUG. NBK is significantly cheaper for so well done.

I love having more accuracy, which is why i bought the combiner wars combiners. My only problem with the Devastator combiner which is the same problem I have with Predaking, i wanted all the combiners the same scale. I was able to find a KO for the combiner wars Devastator to scale with the others but not a Predaking. Thanks for the review.

I have a question, would the nbk one be good for stop motion? Also, if u wanna move the ratchet join in hook, u could try like, pushing down on the arms then moving them, since thats how combiner wars spring loaded joints work i guess

This guy is in stock on Amazon, and it's a Prime product, with one day shipping, BUT he's pretty pricey. He's $110, but the way I see it, it's worth more to get it so fast, and to have it Prime guaranteed. But as I understand it, this guy was only like 50 bucks new at release? So, is it a price gouge situation, or has it legit increased in value? Either way though, just looking at these videos, it seems to me that you're getting 6 voyager+ scale figures for like 18 bucks each. I'm a chug collector, I've got mainly ss86 and wfc. My diorama is HUGE! It's about 6 foot long, about 3 foot deep, and 4 or 5 feet high. In it, there's a canyon in front of a dam, with a tall mountain on one side, and shorter one on the other. Above the decepticon base and processing station for the energon they're stealing, there's a roadway. It comes out of a tunnel in the tall mountain, onto a bridge over the base, leading to ground level road on top of the smaller mountain. I've got stairs going down to the base from the smaller mountain, and there's lights everywhere. I've gotta led strip underneath the bridge shining down, down both sides of the bridge, then in the tunnel, above the cave exit, and in the base there's other led "rods" I guess, there's also some lights on a metal mesh platform between the bridge and dam, then above everything is a 36" led shop light. I've got a black senisheer fabric covering the wall behind it all, and covering the shop light to defuse it. I've said this whole meandering rambling semi self congratulatory word essay diatribe to get to a small point lol. I've not found anyone who will measure his hight. I'm really wanting him to stand on the ground level, and be able to reach the upper bridge level, and lean over my light poles to be in position to pick autobot scum up off the roadway, and crush them to dust!!! Lol. Is he worth a $110 pricetag, given the fast delivery and easy service if there's an issue? Well, maybe not easy. If a piece is broken or missing, the only option is return it all for an exchange. Granted I live in a rural area, and am blind, so being able to do returns at a gas station a 3rd mile away is also priceless lol

Everyone thinks that, but no, apparently they are relatively the same size, funny part is I always thought Devy was smaller, which I always found weird since he was six construction vehicles instead of, say, cars or military vehicles or weird creatures (I'm lookin' at you, Abominus). I started to do this in no small part because I wanted to give other folks a brutally honest assessment. Any reviewer is naturally going to base stuff on their experiences with a figure but far too often I find people tend to either like everything or just go with what they think the masses wanna hear. For example, don't be justifying Cyberverse as being for kids, kids know when something is awful, like that terrible line. I say stop insulting kids intelligence. I digress, funny you mention the light up feature. I had noticed the switch but mistook it for simple molded detail. It wasn't until after someone else noticed it. I admit I missed it but, if anything, it just makes him better, and he is already pretty darn impressive.

Just got hold of an NBK and love them as individual Constructicons, but found it really needs some work done on all the loose joints before making him into Devastator. For the price I paid 2nd hand I have no problems with the quality or colours and is better than the Jin Jiang KO I had that has a great Devastator mode but as individual Constructicons they are really poor and quite hollow/flimsy but may try to use some of the accessories with the NBK.

It is another CHUG option. That's why I compared as I did. It is also significantly cheaper. Now, if we were talking MP - It would make sense then to bring in Constructor and compare him to Jinbao, which had that OS that has the correct colors and no apparent short cuts. So much Devy, so little time lol.

Cool comparison, Dennis. I had the official version but sold mine last summer. Sometimes I regret it but I hated the fact that we needed expensive 3rd party accessories to make him look the way he should have looked from the outset. You sold him? Wow. The going price I see now is often 259 US. He won't get cheaper. As for the expensive add ons, I got one set, and that was more for the individual bots. I never felt a need to do a single thing, other than a few paint apps to the combined mode.

It was a really strange design choice in my opinion but there was an expensive upgrade to address that issue. There were a few other problems with it but now that I have moved my video games to the basement, I probably could have made the room for it. Unfortunately, I didn’t have that option when I sold it.

Greetings my friend! I really love your channel! Good job! You mentioned the Generation Toys Gravity Builder if he is having ratchet joints, yes he is having indeed as far as i have seen in a couple of videos. The oversize version from Jinbao is having as well. But we must have in our minds that NBK is much cheaper ( even if some ratcheted joints at his hips and knees could do a great a job and i dont think they would raise his price) so based on the equation of price and quality he is pretty decent. If someone unscrews the hips and combiner knees and reinforce them with two washer in the hips (yes they stiffen greatly the all thing) and put some card pieces (like those in credit cards - for God's shake i dont mean to destroy your credit cards lol) the NBK becomes rock solid! Maybe rubber washer can work as well due to the friction will produce with the plastic area (i didnt have so i put some thin metallic ones). Anyway great review!

If however find and other way i ll let you know :) May be in specialized tool stores i may find some ratchets or something like that!

I don't know. I never tried. I see your dilemma. So, here is my advice, use 90 percent rubbing alcohol and make sure to work a bit and then clean the figure off, say with baby wipes, then do some more work and some more cleaning. Once off, run the figure under the faucet with a little soap. My guess is they are tampographs and will take a bit of work but should come off just fine.

Either is good. The oversized Jinbao and the NBK are both good. NBK is about the size of the real one, 14 inches or so. The Jinbao is more the size of the titan class Devy. I say, look at what you want him to scale best with and go from there.

Try the super glue trick. apply thin layer of super glue on the male side, allow it to cure, it'll hold things better for you.

I would personally advise against superglue as it has a tendency to eat plastic over time. However, that said, while I myself opt to use either the floor polish or actually build on new plastic over what is there with Bondic or plastic weld, many swear by the superglue. To each their own. I say do what works for you in your experience. I would need something that allows full functionality for stop motion work. Now....after ALL that said....this big guy doesn't belong to me(as cool as he is). As I said, he was only on loan to me from a friend of the channel.

I saw the review on these guys by BensKOllectibles...I can't get with the simplifications on these that NBK made. Seems even worse than Jinbao's Into the Sky oversized KO of Feral Rex. I'll just hold off until I can get the Jinbao oversized version of Gravity Builder, which like their OS KO of Warbotron Bruticus, wasn't simplified at all.

I can definitely see the argument for doing that. I don't know their size or their cost. I can buy into the simplifications as a CHUG option and because the entire set can be gotten for 85 US. Even simplified, that is quite the value for money when the real gravity builder is more like 599.

Seems the OS version can be had (once the last two come out) for a grand total of about $180; last I checked, the first two pairs were like $60 depending on where you looked. That's a little more than the OS Feral Rex & Warbotron ($120-130 and about $150 respectively)...but still less than a third of the real deal. I find it funny that Jinbao took a page from MakeToys original release of Giant (Yellow Giant): two-pack sets.

Yeah, Constructor is definitely The King of Fighters for a proper MP scale & MP aesthetic set of Constructicons. Whether original recipe, NBK, or Jinbao, however, Gravity Builder is more CHUG style.

JinBao Oversized Devastator. That's my Devastator. Daban regular sized Gravity Builder will be my Constructicons set as they are Voyager sized! NBK is too cheap and simplistic vs the Jinbao and Daban version. Jinbao and Daban is much better quality. Jinbao and Daban are identical. The only difference is size. Oh yeah, both Daban and Jinbao are going to have the G1 heads installed with the upgrade kits. They will also have the leg extensions for stability and height.

I had to make a choice and it just made more sense to go the Jinbao route @ $163 vs $400. Now I did get the upgrade kits to make him more G1 like, he fits perfectly in size with Siege Omega.

Th NBK is simply a great deal. Can't beat the combiner wars Dev though. You know who my new favorite 3rd party company is now? Fans Hobby. Their MB-16 Lightning Eagle Skystrike Convoy and MB-08 Double Evil (Overlord!) are some of the most beautiful figures I've ever seen. I'm waiting to buy the Fans Hobby Overlord, but you should check out a review on it. That is one serious, real deal transformers company.

I agree on both counts. The NBK did a wonderful job adapting an already amazing set of e gineering. I have touted Fans Hobby since their first release. Granted, their scale seems to be in line with MP, which wouldn't match my personal collection scale on the least, and in Canadian dollars they are pricey. However, unlike other companies, I 100 percent see the valuation and love that they have often done characters and projects other companies aren't doing all the time. I wish I could review their products, and will if ever I can get access to any but literally everything about them impresses me time and time again.

I collect only a few very specific models myself and like to have multiple releases of the same...like, my favorite is Hot Rod/Rodimus so I own about 90% of all official Hasbro and Takara and unofficial third party releases ever made, same with Optimus and Ultra Magnus. I was considering investing in a G1 Overlord or piecing one together but they are just way too expensive. Then I came across Fans Hobbies and saw their super eclectic convoy and had to have it. I have this and it's shit because I was holding him then I grabbed one of the legs of long haul in combined mode and it snapped off and I was so gentle and I was mad and the wheel on the other leg kept falling off in vehicle mode too and my dad had to super glue the leg back on and I was also supposed to get the toy world version which is the biggest one you can get which is as tall as titans return trypticon and my mom got this the ko because she said it was a bit more bigger yet it was smaller and the same thing happened when I wanted power of the primes prediking for my birthday but I got a g1 and she said it was called a power of the primes prediking when she ordered it online so after the ko devastator I told my mom to be careful and pay attention when she is ordering transformers online.

Got my NBK this week. Your videos have been a great guide. But I think you missed the best part. My Devastator has a switch on the back of his head that turns the eye light on. As said the NBK Devastator is pretty awesome. But with a glowing red eye... make that F%@$ING AWESOME.

Whoa! Really? I'm sorry to hear yours was such bad quality. As I said throughout the series, I think the real strength in them, when you consider how much the set costs compared to Generation Toy, is in them as individual constructions. That said though, while I agree that a couple of the connections could be tighter, the copy I reviewed was not as bad off as the one your describing. That's a tough break, man. Sounds like me with Takara, I have yet to find anything they make to be anything other than looseness city.

Oversized Jinbao is a 100% improvement to this figure. Same with the Daban version. Daban is a 1:1 for Gravity Builder, and Jinbao is 1:1 with Gravity Builder just oversized. NBK is a simplified version of Gravity Builder /Jinbao and Daban and it's really not that great. I have both Oversized Jinbao and Daban. No regrets. NBK is just not for me. Also the Jinbao Oversized version has an upgrade kit to make the legs longer and more stable, also includes a G1 Devastator head upgrade and a pair of moving drill bit attachments for the hands. Unlike NBK, Gravity Builder/ Oversized Jinbao and the Daban version have ratchet joints. The Jinbao is wonderful, but arguably too big. This is cheap and will fit some folks collections. My Devy is the CW, so none of it appeals to me personally, but I think it is comparing apples to oranges. I feel like these are intended for 2 very different types of collectors.
