Man, on you're own. Ballsy fella. I'd be knackered with that on my own. Great video, lovely and honest. Be great to have a beer with you and discuss issues. What you price is correct. These days, to be a sparky you've done the apprenticeship, paid loads extra in exams, paid your dues to whatever scheme you're with. Paid you're insurances....... I don't know another profession that needs so much CPD just to work another week..... Great work fella. Keep doing what you do! And lastly, how on earth can you get a pension, pay your mortgage, go on holiday and sort your kids for a better life when the numbers don't match.....!

As a customer this is what I want. I dont want day rate. If you want to work late or finish early for kids, not my problem. If you find hard brick or steel lintel, not my problem. So long as you finish on time I would pay same day as I am expecting it.
@retroclickmedia4422
@retroclickmedia4422 3 ай бұрын
That does not make sense. "If you find hard brick or steel lintel, not my problem", if something unexpected is found the job will take longer so will not be finished on time. Tradesmen make far more money working to a price. A carpenter can make a wardrobe in a day, £300 labour and £200 materials, thats cheaper than Ikea, way below market rate, double that is market rate for off the shelf, so you will be quoted £1400.00 as it is bespoke. There is so much work around due to the skills shortage and the big boys will quote £3500.00 even with their "50% off deal", take it or leave it or ask on a day rate. NB I never work on a day rate

@InTruServ
@InTruServ 3 ай бұрын
Yup, never ever run HDMI in a wall unless it’s in conduit that you can pull a replacement through. When we were heavily into audio visual we used to run a 40mm flex conduit with white brush faceplates so they can pull whatever combination of cables they could ever wish for through it: When we installed distributed HDMI matrix systems they were always HD-BaseT Ethernet systems, normally always ran a dual Ethernet feed in case another trade damaged a cable, which we had a few times on earlier installs.
@InTruServ
@InTruServ 3 ай бұрын
Also, if you’re running Ethernet to the outhouse, remember to get external grade, or even SWA Cat6 if needs be, we used that a few times for remote home office buildings.

Is there a reason you take 50% before works begin. Wouldn't it be fairer system to charge customer for materials + your time in getting the materials before works begin. Then you can bill customer in stages of works completed i.e room by room. That way you're not at a loss if customer is a bad customer, equally customer isn't at a loss if you're a rogue tradesman(ps I know you're not rogue) I just think this way is completely fair for both.

I would like to know how you feel about someone running the wires in for you to cut the price down a bit I think you would be against it. due to the problems and overhead if anything goes wrong but in my case, I used to be an electronics engineer. doing huge work for M.O.D and dater centres for about 7 yrs who has run in 1000s of meters of cables including fibre and mains. so I have an excellent understanding of what I need to do but have never wanted to be a spark so am not certified to do my own electrics when it comes to a full rewire but I am very much a person who likes to do everything himself I would just like your thoughts on the matter?

Just find an electrician who you can agree this up front with, do all the chasing, wiring and sockets yourself, leaving them out for inspection and get the spark to fit the consumer unit and certify it. I'm sure lots won't but others will. Especially if pay them for some sort of wiring plan with specs for cable length and size.

Though material prices do change by region, that's not the reason for a London job costing more than an equivalent Wigan job (for example). All the other cost of living stuff means that the labour part inflates - fuel for travel, accommodation (whether a hotel or rent/mortgage), parking, the business' yard/unit/office. If it costs more to live somewhere, that means a labourer will require a higher wage to live there, so their wage will need to be higher, and that is reflected in the price per job of each job they job. Even just your example of buying from the cheapest wholesalers you can find and transporting it to site, that takes someone taking the time to drive it there. If that's 4 hours away, immediately we have to cover 8 hours of work time for that. For a great example of this principle, try to get your courier of choice to deliver something to the Scottish Highlands - it will cost more, even though it's just a few hours up the road from Glasgow.
