Hi Nick, that's an old Type One meter box, they were put in when people had to pre load their Gas meter with coins to get Gas, 1960's/70's It should have been replaced when the meter was changed. I personally replaced hundreds during the 1990's as I am sure many other people did. . . Don't know why it hasn't been done, but it needs to be. . . 🤔

Nothing wrong with it as pipes are not running inside the cavity, also not the responsibility of the suppliers so meter fitter won't change it, also not responsibility of grid so Cadent wont do it, it's property owners responsibility to get it changed if they want to but it doesn't need to be. That's why it's not been done.

Hi Nick - just a tip. I'm an industrial controls electrical engineer in a car factory stamping plant. So with my heavy engineering background I prefer to hammer the floorboard nails down out of the way with a pin punch as joiners from the old days never nailed anywhere near the centre of the joist. Then find the centre of the joist and run a pencil line down to cut to. This makes it easier lifting the boards and less chance of splitting the board - and you'll always have enough board to screw down at the join afterwards. 😃

Love the videos, keep it up. What i would say when using the wall chaser. Im sure that you should pull it not push it. It will depend on the rotation of blades on the metabo, but looking at the long trigger handle, i would suggest its been designed to be pulled. Channeling out in the correct direction will help to minimise the risk of it jumping etc.

@0liver0verson9
@0liver0verson9 2 ай бұрын
There's plenty wrong with that gas box, enough for it to be considered "at risk" under gas safe regs, and the customer would be advised to leave the gas off until it was fixed. The danger being that a gas leak has potential to seep into the wall cavity without the occupant being aware until it went bang. Any trashed recessed gas box is at risk, though regs do change from time to time.

It's not been trashed, it's a Type 1 box. . For coin fed meters. . Yes it should have been changed when the meter was. . It is not non compliant as the regs don't cover it. . Sad but true. . Transco, fitted them. . As National Grid when we came across them we took them out. . If a third party supplied and fitted the meter. . Cost cutting they didn't take them out

Nope not "at risk" not even worth a verbal mention pipes not in cavity so the danger you mention isn't there you can see it's not open to the cavity. Why do people see something out the ordinary n sh** themselves so much 🤦‍♂️.

I did an internship in 2005, replacing a riser mains in an old apartment building was one of our tasks. Four people on the job but only two breakers, so the apprentice and me got handed lump hammers and bolster chisels. 63 mm conduit in hard brick walls, 30+ degree weather. That made pulling five 10 mm2 singles through 18.5 m of 40 mm flexible with something like nine 90-degree bends in it almost seem like fun (the apprentice and me hung onto the draw line with our combined body weights at the meter cabinet downstairs while the journeyman fed the wires upstairs and barked "Faster! Faster!" in Croatian). That company was... interesting.
