Could you make a video about articling position, if it is difficult to find, if you found it, and more information that you consider important about articling position specifically in Vancouver, which is the city where you are. It would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!!

Hello Surabhi, Hope you are doing well. Firstly thank you for putting up your experience and related process on KZbin. I am following you since last one year and all your videos are really helpful for me. After watching your videos, I decided to write the NCA exams and by the grace of God, this month I've cleared all my NCA exams. Now as my next step and as a foreign (Indian) lawyer I am planning to enroll myself for LPP program. But before proceeding further, I've certain queries and it will be really great if you kindly look into them. (a) Will getting the certification of qualification from NCA help me to get more points in Express Entry in Canada? (specifically under 7 CRS pointer) (b) Completing LPP from Ryerson college help me to get some extra points under 4b CRS pointer?

Did you take any loan? Did you get any scholarships? Did you get a PR 1st? Could you afford LLM without any of these ?
@mshappyfeet71683 жыл бұрын
I couldn’t find any scholarships for LLM common Law program, UBC did however, offered a bursary, it ranges from $3k to 6k but it doesn’t get deducted from your fee, first you need to pay the fee for each term and the they reimburse you some amount in the next term depending on the amount. I took a student loan which covered 80% of my program fee and 80% residence as far as I can remember.. my student loan was 17.35 lakh but the total cost was beyond 23-24 lakh which only covered university fee and residence, I worked part time to pay my own bills like food, cellphone, clothing etc. I came here on a study visa, but if you have enough points for PR I would highly recommend coming here with a PR, you can only work 20 hrs per week on study permit (in covid times when classes were online, the rules might have changed, please check the IRCC website to confirm).

Ma'am, Is Full time LLM in Intellectual property rights available in Canada? If yes, please suggest universities and scope of non-science background IP Lawyers. I saw a part time LLM in IP law at Osgoode, so is part time as good as full time (considering part time takes 24 months) for a foreign trained lawyer? I'm not very good academically. Is Common Law easy to study? Do students generally pass? I chose IP just because, I could study IP law while I'm in India since its mostly same around the world. Can I study Canadian Common Law while I'm in India? If I take NCA separately what subjects will I have to study during my LLM in common law? I would be grateful if you could even answer one of them. I'll be obliged! Please guide me ma'am

Do you think a PG Diploma in Business Law or Criminal Law etc (i.e., a PG diploma in a legal niche) accompanied by fulfilment of the NCA requirements would be a good route to pursue a legal career in Ontario for an Indian trained lawyer freshly out of law school? What’s the marketability of such a qualification in your opinion?
@mshappyfeet71684 жыл бұрын
Well, usually a masters degree would hold more value than a diploma, but it is not a bad option at all. Though, I am assuming these diploma courses are either 1 year or less in duration, so again you will be eligible for a shorter work permit.

Do we need to register with the NCA prior to our LLM or is it not required? And are the NCA equal to LLM, like do you need to give your NCA exam after LLM- CL? It's a bit confusing for me.
@mshappyfeet71683 жыл бұрын
If you are applying for LLMCL it is recommended that you apply for your NCA assessment in advance, so that you know which courses you need to complete and opt for as part of your LLM! It is not mandatory to have the NCA assessment prior to starting LLMCL but you do not want to be in a situation where you are already half way through your LLMCL and you find out that you needed to complete more NCA courses that were offered in the previous term or that are clashing with the other courses you have already picked! To answer the 2nd part of your questions, if you complete all NCA exam individually, with NCA itself then you do not need to pursue LLMCL, similarly if you complete all NCA courses as part of your LLMCL then you don’t need to write the already completed NCA exams separately! For example, if NCA tells you that you need to complete 6 courses but you only complete 5 of them as part of your LLMCL, then you will have to take that 1 remaining exam with NCA but not the other 5 you have already completed during your LLMCL!

@mshappyfeet71684 жыл бұрын
Divya Vyas Hey! I checked their website and they are suggesting to type your institution name manually, they are also saying they can only process your application if your university is recognized in India! So I guess if your university is UGC approved you should be fine! Still, I would suggest writing to them personally so that you have a reliable source of information. You can search “institution is not listed” in the help centre search box here - www.wes.org/ca/help/ I couldn’t find their email address anywhere, but since I am already here I can call them for you and hopefully get an email address for you, where you can send your questions. Hope this helps!

Mam if we do LLM in Canada, it is for 1 year and we get one year work permit in which we can do our articling. So how can we manage our visa and residency because after one year the work permit get ended? Please tell me mam if you know the answer to this problem. Thanks 🙂
@mshappyfeet71682 жыл бұрын
You will have to find a job that gets you another work permit or apply for your PR well in advance of the end of that one year.. this is a very common worry for students that is why you should apply for PR as soon as you have a score higher than the cut off or apply for a longer program that gets you a longer work permit.. 1 year is not always enough to secure an Articling position, they are extremely difficult to secure! I suggest that you speak to an immigration consultant or use the CIC website to explore your chances of getting a PR before and after completion of your program. I had to wait until my LLM ended to add the extra 30 points for Canadian education and retake IELTS to get the top score that helped me make the cut for Express Entry!

Do i have to complete my LLM in Canada and also complete NCA course simultaneously? Or I can opt for any 1 of them.?
@mshappyfeet71683 жыл бұрын
You can opt for 1 of them, you can either take all NCA exams separately or complete your NCA courses as part of your LLM Common Law.
@hrishikeshlakhotia77743 жыл бұрын
@@mshappyfeet7168 I have a doubt at this point only. As, it is understood that LLM in Common Law fulfils the NCA requirements. Hence, does completing NCA courses as a part of my LLM program in Common Law mean that I am exempted from writing NCA exams? If I complete an LLM in Common Law having NCA courses, would I still need to write NCA exams for getting the certificate of qualification from NCA, or I can directly proceed further just after completing the LLM Program?
@mshappyfeet71683 жыл бұрын
If you complete all your NCA courses as part of your LLM common law program then you do not need to take NCA exams separately. Your law school can send a letter to NCA confirming that you have completed all the NCA courses during your LLMCL and you will need to send your LLMCL transcripts to NCA, then they will issue the certificate of qualification!
