Yea, there is something to be said for smooth gameplay over ultra detailed gameplay. At some point along the line EA lost the script... Focusing more and more on control scheme gimmicks and 45 different elbow pad options and 30 different catch animations. They started ignoring truly tight user controlled gameplay. For all their warts, and dont get me wrong these old games have plenty of warts, but I do think the PS2 era was the apex for football video games.

Don't forget: In college, the clock stops when you get a first down under 2 minutes in a half until the ball gets spotted, so running for a first is a legitimate strategy.

The -06 games were the first to introduce player career modes (separate from dynasty and franchise and such) and the first iteration of the mode is a little rough around the edges. That's why there's no player lock and whatnot. Perhaps try NCAA 08 for your defensive player career mode to get a more polished experience.

Man...this video brings so much nostalgia to me. Growing up the only game I had on the ps2 (football wise) for the longest time was NCAA ), and its literally the same as this. I put so much into that game, playing as good ole Nebraska. That was when I beat Kansas 240-7 lmao. But these older games were honestly amazing.
