I have been betting and handicapping College and Pro Football for over 50 years and I am very confused on a play . Please help me. Permit me to set the play up . At the end of the half or game when TIME is running out , and a team is behind. They get a 1st Down and run to the line and SPIKE the ball The QB raises his arm to do it so it is not a fumble. Now the qb is not throwing to a receiver , he is INSIDE the pocket , and the ball does not go BEYOND the line of scrimmage . SO TO ME THIS IS INTENTIONAL GROUNDING!!! Why no penalty ???? Help !!!! GOOD SHOW THANK YOU FOR FREE INFORMATION !!!

It’s a rule. I think it should be changed to intentional grounding to prevent teams from being able to run out the clock but it’s always been like this. If intentional grounding is making a pass past the line of scrimmage and there isn’t a receiver within so many yards of the ball. Since it’s behind the line of scrimmage and a wide receiver is within so many yards , it isn’t considered intentional grounding even though it really is intentional

@@Tarheel777 Thank you but the rule still makes no sense to me lol. If i was a coach , I would instruct my QB to PASS THE BALL INTO THE GROUND IF HE WAS GOING TO GET SACKED , and TELL THE OFFICIAL HE WAS INTENTIONALLY GROUNDING THE BALL !!!
