I cannot speak for all schools but @ Penn Stste only 3 sports are profitable. Football, hockey and basketball ( wrestling breaks even). Why? Not enough people care enough to support them.

You can’t make people be interested in things. Sorry, people aren’t interested in women’s basketball unless it’s their university. Pro women’s basketball is the worst!! I did watch this women’s championship and it was by far the best women’s basketball I’ve witnessed. As a general rule it is boring and that’s why there is no money. You can talk talk talk if your ESPN but you can’t force people to be interested.

I’ve been a season-ticket holder for decades for women’s sports and love to support them at the college level, but in terms of these becoming profitable business entities, they’re gonna have to create more than a one time interest outside of a tournament setting otherwise, it just doesn’t work until more fans become interested and I mean a lot more fans! There are a handful of sports outside of men’s football, and basketball that make money they can be counted on one hand to at the most Nebraska volleyball is one. There might be a couple of women’s women’s programs that make money, and those are isolated instances of success, but not indicative of the entire nonrevenue sports genre.

So far, I know football, men's basketball, men's ice hockey and baseball are more popular. Not even WNBA is not very strong like the NBA. I just don't know why, but most of the sports outside of the 4 I mentioned are not making money.

Cricket is the UKs major sport, (along with soccer, tennis, golf and darts) baseball will never be popular in the UK.

If women’s basketball was so big, the WNBA would be making money! Unfortunately, it is a fringe sport that has yet to make a penny, and wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for support of the NBA. The same could be said for all other non-revenue, sports, men’s, and women’s. There’s little to no interest in supporting them in numbers that would make them profitable in a real world business model, not the mandated college model for nonrevenue sports.
